this is for folders with large # of jpg, etc. Just need to manipulate files, etc...no need for image preview and so forth.

This FAQ will probably help:
If you don't want the view mode to change automatically when entering a folder with lots of Jpegs you should disable the Content-Type Detection system, which the FAQ should explain (and lots more).
