How to conceal Hidden(?) or dimmed out files on the Lister

Hi,
I have some dimmed out file icons under My documents--usually with a wavy slash in front (for temporary files I think).

They are "cluttering" my work area. I was looking for some kind of place under preferences to set it so "hidden files" don't show (I think this is what they mean by hidden files).

Could someone please direct me to this area, if this is the proper way to get these out of my work space.

I could also do a massive deletion--but I worry that I might delete something important. . .

You can hide "hidden" files using Folder Formats:

Turn on the H checkboxe in the hide filter shown above, for each of your folder formats, and update your Default Lister (and any Layouts or Styles that have their own formats) as described at the top of the Folder Formats FAQ.
