Use your android smartphone/tablet with Directory Opus

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to use Directory Opus on your android device.

You will be able to..

  • Remotely manage both PC and Android files with Directory Opus.

  • Play music from your PC to your android device.

  • Stream tv shows and movies from your computer directly to your android device. * For optimal performance you will need an Nvidia graphics card with Cuda support.

  • Play a PC game on your android device *You will need an Nvidia graphics card with Cuda support.

Note: You will need a wireless router connected to your home network. Connect your android device to your home network via wifi

  1. Install the Splashtop Streamer software on your Windows PC.
    You can find that here:
    http://www.splashtop.com/streamer/downloadstart?platform=Windows

  2. Right click on the Splashtop Streamer icon in your system tray.

  3. Go to preferences

  4. Make sure these settings are checked.

  5. Click on the Advanced tab and create a password. You need 8 to 20 alphanumeric characters long. Must contain at least one number and one letter.

I suggest leaving the default port 6783, otherwise you need to change the port in the android Splashtop app too.

  6. Install the following apps on your android device.

    Android Smartphone

    Splashtop Remote Desktop

    Rapfox FTP Server

    Android Tablet

    Splashtop Remote Desktop HD

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote.pad&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zcGxhc2h0b3AucmVtb3RlLnBhZCJd

    Rapfox FTP Server

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rapfox.ftpsvr#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLnJhcGZveC5mdHBzdnIiXQ

  7. Create an android ftp server. (Tap the Rapfox FTP server app on your android device.) Go to options.

  8. Start the Ftp Server

  9. Open Directory Opus go to ftp>address book
Enter your IP address as shown in android ftp server
    Change port to 2121
Initial Directory: /mnt/sdcard (Root folder of your android device)
    Turn on passive mode

  10. I like to make multiple ftp addresses to quickly access certain android folders. I made several duplicates of the first ftp address. Next, I renamed each duplicate to their corresponding folder. Simply change the Initial Directory for each address.

Camera
/mnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera
Download
/mnt/sdcard/Download
Movies
/mnt/sdcard/Movies
Root
/mnt/sdcard
Easy access to files on your android device!
  1. Open the Splashtop app

  2. Tap here to connect (n.b. all the external screenshots broke so you'll have to guess where 'here' means :frowning: --Leo)

  3. Using 2 fingers long press to launch trackpad mode.

  4. Use my Alphabet File & Folder Finder v4 Toolbar. It will be a lot easier to manage files and folders.

Done! Now you can use Directory Opus with an android device!

Thanks, I'll have to go through this soon when i have a moment.

Thanks for providing.

Splashtop seems to have changed its interface since taking these screen grabs.

great article! it has come in very handy!

None of the image links on this post seem to be working

Unfortunately they all linked to imageshack which "went bad" a couple of years ago. Unless the OP comes back and reposts them there's nothing we can do.
