By default, when using the Acrobat DC plugin the tools and navigation panes obscure the contents. To solve this open DC, hide the Navigation pane (F4), and the tool pane (Shift-F4). Then go to Edit->Preferences->Documents and select Remember current state of Tools pane. Those hot-keys also work in the viewer if you prefer to keep the default settings.
