Advance rename for multiple selection

Since a couple of people have asked for this now we'll add this ability in the next version.

OK, I will give you that one; actually I rather like that.

I have seen only one other program that allowed renaming simply by moving the curser, JRivers Media Center, and I do use it all the time. As it is so seldom used by other programs I failed to actually try that on Opus, very nice indeed.

It would be rather nice though if F2 could also be Context Sensitive to multiple files as I and Toller have asked for. Possibly it could be Shift F2 (or something like that) for multiple file rename dialog box.

The thing that I find funny (if that is the word) is that all other non image management programs (such as file managers) use F2 for single file rename, BUT all image management programs that I have used (such as FastStone, ACDSee and etc) all use F2 in the context sensitive mode where selection one file allows renaming only that file while selecting multiple files brings up the rename dialog.

Coming from the graphics world, a context sensitive F2 is very normal behavior for renaming; once you use it for awhile and it is not available in another program (such as Opus) you really miss it as it makes so much sense.

So, in closing, PLEASE reconsider this addition for a future of Opus.

Thanks;
Doc

You can make Shift F2 open the advanced rename dialog already - leaving F2 for inline rename - the best of both worlds imo.

That would be great; how do I fo that :question:

Doc

By assigning a hotkey to an Opus button which opens the advanced rename dialog.

Or...

You can go to Customize/Keys and create a similar button there.

Doc, you should've seen the Amiga version of Opus some ten years ago. You could even change file dates and attributes inline. Actually, the lister worked almost like a text editor, since you could move the cursor left and right from the Name column to the Date column to the Attributes column etc. and edit them right there. Ah, the good old days :slight_smile:

I asked if it were possible to add this to the Windows version, but I guess it's too much work for something people aren't used to being able to do anyway.

THAT sounds like a GREAT feature :open_mouth:

I have always found changing file date, time and attributes to be a pain in-the-you-know-what :blush:

I would LOVE to see that feature added to Opus.

Any chance of that happening :question:

Thanks;
Doc

Be sure to ask them for it. In and amongst any topics that you see a reply from Jon or Greg in... just remember that the 'official request' system is through the GPSoft website and NOT the forum.

Thanks Steje;

I did not know that.

I will make the "official"request.

doc

Well; I tried TWICE to enter the request in the "official" Opus page but each time it said my 60 trial reg code was not valid.

What a brunch of C**p :smiling_imp:

It seems that only 'officially paid up members" are allowed to make request.

This makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

How in the H**l are we new users going to get through to them :question:

Thanks for letting me vent my rage, things like this make me really, really mad.

Doc

Why do they not just add a new category to the Forum and call it New Feature Request or something like that :question: :unamused:

Your rage is misplaced. You can submit things to the support form, you just have to use the same email address that you used to get your 60-day evaluation code and leave the code blank. At least that's what it says on the form.

I don't know why this causes so many people problems, or why anyone would think that evaluation users cannot submit requests, when the form states it clearly in red (unless that was only just added or something):

Because the stuff submitted through the support form goes into a tracking system, while a forum full of random chat etc. is a nightmare to keep track of. Suggestions will simply get lost or overlooked if the forum is used for them and some kind of filtering system is needed to avoid duplicate ideas as well as requests for things which are already implemented (that the requester didn't know about) ending up in the already-long To-Do list.

Many things submitted to the forum do get worked on, and I (or one of the other keen users, or GPSoftware themselves if they see a thread) will often take ideas from the forum and submit them to GPSoftware's database, but if you want to guarantee that an issue is in the database then you should submit it yourself rather than relying on someone else to notice a forum thread and care about the issue as much as you do to submit it.

Also because anyone can post to the forum while the support form ensures that people are either legitimate customers or legitimate evaluation users. You wouldn't believe the number of pirates who read/write to the forum (as we discover when certain cracks cause features only for pirates and they all come complaining about those "bugs" :slight_smile:). Of course pirates can still suggest ideas here which one of us might think are good enough to add to GPSoftware's to-do list, but that's not a bad thing if the idea is a good one and other people agree with it.

We also used to have Feature Requests forum but people never knew whether to post in there or in the Help & Support forum. We had people requesting things which were already possible, and people asking for help on how to do things which were not possible. It just makes more sense to have only one general Help & Support forum. Things can be discussed and ideas filled in and rounded out or existing alternatives explored, and then if it makes sense someone involved in the thread can submit a clear and concise request into GPSoftware's database. I don't see any problems with that and I see several advantages for all involved.

Doc, I had already made the request for you well before the support page disqualified you :wink:

...which is not to say that trial users should not be allowed to make feature requests. If this is intended, the reason is probably that there is only a single channel for bug reports/comments/suggestions/general support, and, being a developer myself, I can understand why support is not offered to non-registered users.

Trial users can submit support requests/suggestions (so long as they can follow the instructions) so there's nothing to worry about.

Dear Leo, I'm sorry for my interfere, but using the blank code is new. I know it because I was ask this question many times of myself when I used support page during evaluation. The form ask me to fill this field by my evaluation code that was send to me by Email, but DOpus site did not accept my code at all and after many wrestling, I leave the page.

Best Regards

The method whereby evaluation users can submit support requests (same email address; no registration code) has been in use ever since Opus launched on Windows in 2001. The red text, however, is new - it used to be black :slight_smile:

Well guys, all I can say is that I tried it BOTH ways; with and without the reg code and it told me the same thing both times that I had an invalid reg code so I too like Searcher123 left it as unresolvable.

Don't know what else I could have done; you can see where my frustration came in.

Doc

Are you sure you used the exact same email address that you used to get your eval certificate?

Well, as Jon said, since 2001 evaluation users have been happily submitting requests and suggestions.

Of course, if you actually purchased the product then you would have no problems in submitting enhancement requests. Ever considered that if you support the development then maybe the developers will be more inclined to support you?
