Alt keys not triggering items in menu bar

Hi.
I've become attached to the ALT VD, ALT VOA and ALT VOD key shortcuts in Windows 7 Explorer.

But when I hit try the same thing in DOPus, and hit ALT , my green BACK arrow immediately lights up, and seems to take priority away from the menu bar (View/Details), which I am trying to use.

Is it just my particular setup of toolbars and buttons or have I found a bug?

If you edit the Back button you should see its label is &Back, which means it responds to Alt-B, not Alt-V, unless you have edited it (or are using another language).

You can modify the alt shortcuts, as well as assign any hotkey in general, to commands by editing the toolbars & menus (or, if you want a standalone hotkey, via Customize -> Keys).

My problem is, hitting ALT (all by itself) immediately lights up the BACK button and prevents me from triggering any menu item whatsoever...
Just for fun, I removed the label &B, but the button still insists on lighting up every time I hit ALT.

It should only do that if you have removed your menu bar (or moved it below your toolbar).

Aha - moving menubar now...
That was the problem. Thanks!

New issue arises though.

ALT V-S

There are two menu items that are triggered by "S"

"Status bar" and "Sort By"

I want the "Sort By", but I never get the chance. "Status Bar" hooks the hotkey first.

Oh well. I've seen that issue in Windows Explorer too.

Thanks though!

You can edit the Status Bar menu item and remove the & before its name to fix that.

Note that you can also avoid the multi-key shortcut stuff entirely by assigning a hotkey to something. e.g. You could push Ctrl-D to sort by date, if you wanted. (Instead of having to push Alt, V, S, D or whatever the sequence is.)

editing menu items and removing the "&"

entirely new to me

that's why I come here

thanks!
