App Icons on second drive are missing

On my Win10 system I have a folder with all shortcuts to my apps. This folder resides on may second drive. I remember having "cleaned up" this drive and thereby deleted some hidden files that looked sort of unused and old to me :-)).

No all of these icons in that folder are gone. The apps are still working. When I open this folder with windows explorer they are visible, but not in DO. Also when I copy the shortcuts to the desktop, the icon appears.

I have searched the net and this website for hours. Couldn't find anything. What can I do?

If they were desktop.ini files then that's what broke things. I'm surprised if Explorer still shows the correct icons, though. Maybe they are just cached from before the change, and may vanish in Explorer in the future as well.

How were the icons assigned to the folders in the first place? Have you tried redoing that?

I just copied the links from my desktop after installation of the apps.

Yes, no icon

Interestingly: copying from my folder to the desktop works (icon is there, as I mentioned above)
BUT copying from the desktop to a folder which resides on the desktop doesn't (no more icon)

I have tried all the numerous recipes to delete the windows cache files in %appdatalocal%/microsoft/windows/explorer. Manually, with tools - nothing helped.

Try right-clicking the folder shortcuts, then Properties, and on the Shortcut tab, Change Icon.

That doesn't help. Even changing the icon to another one helps.

The icon is displayed in the properties dialog though.

Opening the same folder with Windows explorer shows the icons.

While I thought in the first place that this is only a matter of my second drive, it also happens on the system drive. My desktop folder resides on system drive C:\

And it only relates to app icons. jpg, videos or url Files all have their icons.

Please show us some screenshots of what is happening.

Also, a screenshot if what you see when you click "change icon" on one of the affected files. It should show an icon picker, and I'd like to see the path the current icon is pointing to.

Finally, have you created any labels in Opus? Those can override icons for files/folders that they match, which could explain the problem. (e.g. If you made a label to change what all your folder icons look like, it might also override folders with custom icons).

Here are the screenshots

No, I haven't worked with labels.

Have you turned on Preferences / Folders / Folder Display / Show generic icons for ...? Turn it off, if so.

That did the job!! Thank you, thank you!

So it wasn't me deleting hidden files?
