Application Launcher

I've been using DOpus for many years now, but only just begun to explore what you can do with tool bars, and I've produced this, which I think is quite neat:-

Create a subdirectory on your hard drive C:\users\Public\Documents\ LaunchIT, and place in it a suitable selection of subdirectories to organise your applications (I use 'Favourites', 'Everything', and 'Specials'). Then fill these subdirectories with further subdirectories and short cuts to your applications (for example, I have filled 'Everything' with a copy of the short cuts and sub directories from ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, 'Favourites contains subdirectories called 'Editors Text' Office' etc., etc.)). Load this tool bar, float it, and locate it somewhere in your desk top. You will find it populated with the top level subdirectories in 'LaunchIT'. If you click on one of these you get a cascading menue to the applications within and a single click on any application launches it. If during the day you rearrange things in Launchit, then just press the 'Customise' button and close the Customise dialog to reload.

Now I have written it, the above sounds very complicated, but in practice its very straight forward, and if you organise the shortcuts properly, a much more convenient way of getting to your applications than Windows normal start menu ... at least I think it is!!

Very nice, that's just what I am looking for. However, I cannot get it working. Since I am just starting to use DOpus, could I ask you:

When designing it, by "Load this tool bar", do you mean:

  • Get DOpus in customize mode
-- Click/Slect the launchIT GO button, so a small blank rectangular box appears next to the go button
  • Select the 3 directories 'Favorites', 'Everything', and 'Specials' in a DOpus file window and drop those 3 onto the rectangular box on the LaunchIT bar? So it's NOT a drop of the LaunchIT directory itself?
  • Exit the customize mode

When using it by clickimg, by 'cascading menu' do you mean a cascading menu showing just a short 3 item list spun off right form the LaunchIT bar? So it's NOT a DOpus window opening at the LaunchIT directories?

I can only get

  • the 3 item list appearing by inserting my own menu new button, not from the GO button
  • though it does show the 3 directories when clicking on my newly inserted menu, clicking on one of them open a complete new lister. Nothing next/cascading on the bar itself and tha's what I looking for.

Thank in advance,
Dick

I prefer to keep a collection of Tools portable and not as a tollbar, but inside a button. I use the UserCommands in the Opus data Dir, since it's put on USB when exporting.

You can user System Variables inside buttons, c:\Users\Public\Documents\Launchit is not portable.

You can also directly link to the startmenu

Go PATH /start|/commonstartmenu FOLDERCONTENT
