Hi all,
I've been considering buying Directory Opus, and since I have a discount code that ends tomorrow, I have to make the decision fairly quickly.
My biggest hesitations stem from my troubles getting audio preview to work the way I want. AFAIK There are two ways of doing it, with the "Play Sounds" - file command and with the Viewer Pane. I have a different set of problems with both.
With Play raw command using the built-in sound player, my biggest problem is that each sound is opened in a new sound player. When I want to quickly audition a lot of sound files this is unacceptable. Is it possible to get the the files opened always in the same player? Or if not, is it possible to make the previous player close everytime a new one is opened?
Furthermore, I'd like to set up autoplay, so that everytime autoplay is activated or the player is open etc just selecting a file would play it back. Is this possible? Also, is it possible to dock the sound player on the main Opus GUI?
Maybe the Viewer Pane seems closer to what I'm looking for, but I'm having problems with it too. First of all, when I click a sound file I get a fairly long delay (1-2s) before the playback starts. Is there anything that can be done to that? Also, when the Viewer Pane is open, double clicking a file doesn't work as expected. When I doubleclick on a soundfile, it starts to play it back in the viewer and makes it renameable (goes into edit mode for the name), but does not open it in my media player as it should. Only if I first select a file and then double click on it it opens the file in my mediaplayer. Finally, is it possible to turn off the repeat of the Viewer Pane so that it would play back the selected file only once and not on loop?
Lastly, both the sound file player and the viewer pane seem to be very picky about the file formats they play back. The help file for the Play raw command states that the sound file player supports "any sound files for which there is a system codec installed". However, neither the sound file player nor the viewer pane play back for instance .flacs, some .aiffs/.aifs and 24 bit .wavs even though I have codecs for all the above formats installed and they play back just fine in Media Player Classic. The viewer pane even refuses to play back some VBR mp3s. I wonder if there is something wrong with my settings?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
