Bitdefender / Spam conflict with Opus?

Thanks for trying. Very strange. I await the results from BD's technical guys.

Just had a thought that Opus can use MAPI, which Outlook implements, to send emails. Whether or not MAPI is used is configured under Preferences - Miscellaneous - Email, via the drop-down at the top. I don't know if just running Opus will cause it to interact with MAPI or if it only happens when you actually send an email from Opus. Might be worth a quick try to set the drop-down to SMTP, instead of MAPI, and restart Opus. It might be another red herring but I figure it's worth mentioning, now that it's come to mind.

Just tried the SMTP thing.... same results. O' WELL....

Here's a new twist... I'm using SPAMfighter and I have the exact same problem! However, I have been able to show the toolbar working or not working much easier - without installing or uninstallinmg. When I start DOPUS from its Start menu folder, then start Outlook - the toolbar doesn't work. I then exit Outlook, right-click the tray icon for DOPUS, click "exit" and start Outlook again - the toolbar works.

... And ANOTHER twist. I just downloaded and installed "Ella for SPAM Control" which is another program that adds a "SPAM" toolbar to Outlook. Guess what... DOPUS affects that toolbar as well. Not so bad but it keeps the toolbar icons from being displayed properly. Everything works fine when DOpus.exe is not running.

Maybe those tools install shell extensions which they expect only Explorer to load and when Opus loads them as well they go wrong.

Can you use ShellExView to see if there are any shell extensions installed that look like they're related to the tools that are having problems?

Since those programs are going wrong and Opus isn't explicitly interacting with them or going wrong itself, it seems like something the authors of those programs will need to debug. If they need any help from the Opus developers I'm sure it'll be provided, but it's difficult on the Opus side to guess why another program is going wrong when you don't know anything about that program or how it works internally.

I'm sorry Leo, but I have to disagree with you. So far I have had three different Anti-Spam programs, which display a toolbar in Outlook, not function properly when "dopus.exe" is running - even the SPAMfighter toolbars is DISABLED when Outlook starts. I'm afraid that, under those circumstances, no other software developer is going to care to work on this problem with or with out DOpus' help. IMHO, I think it would be best if you were to try to recreate the problem, which won't be hard, and see where DOpus steps on Outlook and these toolbars. Would you be able to do that? It appears that several users are affected.

I don't understand this mentality of "Program A has a problem, so we'll complain about Program B". If you have programs that aren't working properly, wouldn't it make more sense to complain to the developers of those programs?

Opus doesn't know about or care about or have any interaction with either Outlook or anti-spyware software. However, anti-spyware software, by its very nature, can affect every single program on the system. That is where you need to start looking.

I'm not able to do that as I don't have the source code to the programs which aren't working. Even if Opus is somehow triggering the problem it's impossible for me to know what those programs are trying to do which is failing. Nothing Opus is doing is failing, and Opus doesn't interact with Outlook or its toolbars.

As I think we've said, if the developers of the programs that are having problems can investigate the problem and tell us what operations they are doing which fail when Opus is running then we'll try to help understand what is going on. As it is it's as much of a mystery to us as it is to you because we are not able to debug the programs which are having problems.
