Bug in Find dialog

I attempted to do a Find in DOpus through a network UNC path (the machine is using DFS) and I couldn't get it to search from the machine name. Rather I had to search from machine-name \ directory.

Repro steps:

 1. Create a Samba / MS networked share (you'll probably need a Win2K3 server)
 2. Activate DFS and create a mapping to "SomeVirtualDirectory"
 3. Drop a file in SomeVirtualDirectory called SomethingOrOther.txt
 4. On a client machine with DOpus installed open a lister, click in the location bar and type the UNC path to the machine \YourMachine
 5. Hit CTRL-F
 6. In the Find-In text-box type: \YourMachine then click "Add Folder"
 7. Try and do a search for SomethingOrOther.txt

Results: It doesn't locate the file.

 1. In the Find-in text-box type: \YourMachine\SomeVirtualDirectory and click "Add Folder"
 2. Now try and do a search for SomethingOrOther.txt

Results: it does find the file.

This isn't really a bug; the machine name is not a real folder and the Find tool only searches in real folders.

If you want the ability to search from a machine name, enumerating all of the public shares in turn, then you should send GPSoftware a feature request.

The first bullet-point on the DOpus front page is:

* Powerful File Manager & Explorer Replacement

This tells customers that DOpus does at a minimum what explorer does and, for the most part, better. If DOpus doesn't do what explorer does it's a bug, because it's failing to live up to the most basic expectation of the product.

To see how Windows does it:

 1. Hit Winkey+F
 2. In the "Look in" field type: \YourMachine
 3. Try and do a search for SomethingOrOther.txt

Results: it works.

If you want the feature, write to GPSoft as I suggested. (Remember that this is a user-to-user forum an none of us can implement features for you.)

If you want to argue semantics over the meaning of the phrase "Explorer Replacement," do it somewhere else.
