Button to toggle overlay icon on thumbnails

i usually manage to find the solution to a lot of my button problems on the forum, but i'm stuck with this one. does anyoned know if it's possible to create a button toggle that will perform the same action as doing this in the preferences...

Preferences > Lister Display Modes > Thumbnails Mode >Overlay thumbnail with file type icon

it would be great if the button behaved as a toggle. usually i work with the overlay icon on but when viewing very small images the overlay icon makes it difficult (impossible) to view the graphic underneath. a quick toggle in this case would be extremely helpul.

thanks.

I don't think it's possible to toggle that setting via a command/button.

I also recently noticed the overlay problem with small images. (Not sure if I've reported it to GPSoft yet.)

okay, thanks leo. i thought it might be asking too much - but i hope that GPSoft make it possible in the future.

i was trying to think of a satisfactory work around but i haven't thought of anything. if i do i'll post back here.

Would you still want a quick way to toggle the overlay if it was moved out of the way for small images?

that's interesting - it would be nice if the overlay icon could remain visible somewhere - just moving it to a corner of the thumbnail would be good. but if the overlay icon had to be removed completely for small thumbnails then that would be better than nothing.

edit:
i have also (just) noticed that very thin tall/wide thumbnails do not show an overlay icon at all. perhaps it would be a good idea if the overlay icon feature was completely changed so that it always displayed a corner - rather than "overlaying" the image.

i've just realised i need to check if the thumbnails can be given a full background inside DOpus - maybe this is a simple solution...

edit:
no they can't.
