Likely this has been asked before (?) but would it not be possible to have an option to have Directory Opus
calculate space required befóre doing a (major) backup ?
Or maybe have something as a context menu item (copy with precalc... or so).
I have been doing a back up onto an external HD and after 6 hours, I got a warning that I ran out of space, which
was actually just about for the last 5-10GB.
I had to cancel the job, but the question is then: which files went fine and which ones should be copied to
another drive, or onto the same drive, after freeing up some space.
If a pre-calculation was available, then I cud have known that it would not fit.
Maybe it is already available, but I am not aware of the feature and hope someone tells me where to find it.
You can use Edit -> Calculate Folder Sizes and the status bar to find out how big the files & folders you have selected are.
(You should also be able to put a graph on the status bar that shows the selected size vs the free space in the destination, and turns red if it's over.)
See this thread for why checking whether or not file copies will fit is not realistically possible, at least in a way that would be accurate enough to (IMO) really be useful:
Assumed DO would roughly do the same as when one were to select a few folders and select 'properties' and then wud take that number as a fair estimated.
Cud you guide where to fine the calculate item? The barge {bg} I found.
