Camera image copying issues

Sony Cybershot DSCHX9V digital camera (though likely an issue with others too).

When copying files from the camera there a few issues:

  1. The files when viewed in a lister indicate an empty "Modified" date column, but have "Created" and "Date Picture Taken" columns that have a correct date/time. When these are copied onto a harddrive for example, these files end up with "Modified", "Created", and "Accessed" dates of now (date/time they were copied).

Anyone got a quick resolution to #1?

  1. There doesn't appear to be a way to set it to clear the READ ONLY flag for camera devices, as can be done when copying from CD drives.

  2. There doesn't appear to be a way to override the lister view mode (Power Mode or such), but default. And the toolbar commands/icons don't work for the default lister view. Instead you have to use the context menu on the lister to change the view.

There was some other stuff, but for some reason I had a tough time submitting this topic, and I've forgotten now what they were.

Do you see the same in Windows Explorer?

The camera is probably providing a virtual folder, not a real directory/filesystem, and if so then what you see is largely outside of Opus's control.

Taking the camera's memory card out and plugging it into a card reader should give you a real directory, which works better.

This answer should be added to the FAQ. Using a card reader should spare a lot of trouble, i can confirm.

...but that is complicated especially when you have to do it everyday! Fortunately most devices today use normal USB-Mode.

I would suggest windows autoimport to do this (on cameras!).

Windows is defaulting to Tiles mode. So, I wonder if I can figure out how to get Windows 7, to not default to Tiles mode, if that'll follow suit into DOpus too.

I don't want to use Windows Auto-Import. I use Directory Opus partly for consistency in what I'm looking at... copying, etc.

I'm not sure if using a card reader will fix the timestamp issue... but, maybe.
