I'm scouring the web for software that will allow me to view and search my thousands of scanned pdf's & jpg's since the ScanSnap software no longer works on high res displays. So far Directly Opus looks like a solution, but there is a problem I can't figure out how to solve.
The scanner software adds a subdirectory (.organizer) to each directory, which contains a bunch of files that start with !. Some are .ini and some are .jpg. There are 3 of these for every actual file, so I need to suppress them from the search results.
I read about filters. But I don't want to have to type a whole search string every time I do a search. Plus the filters seem to only filter by file type and I need to filter these files that start with !. Can filters be set globally and alway apply to searches without having to retype them every time? And can they be based on something other than file type?
Thanks in advance for any help.
p.s. I also tried creating libraries from the actual folders, but I can't find a way to exclude the unwanted subfolder that way either.
Another option, In the advanced find there is a save button. So while I have never needed to use it, I guess that would allow you to save the filters you have entered.
Another option, would be to flag the .organizer folder as hidden, and not show hidden files. The Filter Bar allows you to quickly hide and show hidden items
I think the hidden files trick might work but here's the issue. I went to each .organizer folder and make the folder and all it's contents hidden. But they didn't all work. So according to the search I do on dopus for !, I got 38000 of them but there are still 11598 left to change. I was changing them in window explorer but now it's not showing me any there. But Opus is showing them in search.
I can't select them in Opus because it's put the result into a collection which is pointing to the desktop. So when I try to do a global property change it says files not found. Can you tell me how I can select the 11598 files that come up in Opus search and change the properties to hidden?
update to this: I have found I can do global searches in Opus as long as I only change the files in one subfolder at a time. For some reason when I try to cross subfolders, it doesn't work.
Either that, or help me with the syntax on the global filter. I've tried
.organizer with and without regular expressions checked
(*.organizer) with regular expressions checked
and several other combinations, none of which seem to work.
Hiding the folder or adding the name to Global Filters stops the items displaying in the Lister, but does not apply to searching (sorry I didn't realise that).
I was able to achieve the desired result, however you will need to use the Advanced Search.
In the advanced search first create a Filter and save it. I called this one Hide Organizer.
Now you can select that filter and modify as needed.
I think being able to apply a filter (and perhaps the global filter) to the simple search would make a nice feature request.
I have never tried this, but you may be able to edit the Search Results folder format to exclude the folders (and/or files) you do not want. It certainly works fine for "ordinary" folder formats - I use it all the time.
The Help file has comprehensive instructions on how to do it.
