It seems many users are somewhat anti-folder trees, so I guess those types won't be sympathetic to my question. However I like the trees (old habbits sometimes die hard). I guess I like it because it makes it easier for me to visualize where am working inside the directory structure.
On that note, suppose I have a list of files and folders in the file display (to the right of the folder tree) and I double click on one of those folders. The selected folder opens as expected, but I would also like the folder tree to expand that folder (and collapse the old one), just as if I had navigated to the new folder by clicking the "+" in the folder tree and then clicking on the folder of interest. Is there an option that selects this type of behavior?
Interestingly enough, I turned that on, and it worked but only for the lower display of my dual display. So I tried restarting dopus and switching from dual to single and back. Now the "Expanded selected branch" doesn't seem to work anymore in either lister. Also I tried checking "Full row selection" and it seemed to have no effect. There seems to be some kind of disconnect. Any ideas about what is happening?
Could you post a screenshot (or two) showing the same page of Preferences, and the Lister window where you see the problem? (i.e. The window with the tree(s) and file display(s).)

Certainly. So note that I've already navigated down one level on both the upper and lower listers, but the folder tree has not followed. More over if I double click on the folder "ATI" (upper lister) or "ARIZ" (lower lister) the file displays update with the selected folder contents but the folder tree does not change at all (unless I click on the tree itself). However note that I have "Expand selected branch" checked, so I would not expect this behavior.
You can turn those options back off... I think Leo misunderstood what you wanted. The 'Expand Selected Branch' option just means that single clicking/selecting the 'folder' name in the Tree will cause Opus to 'expand' that part of the tree withOUT clicking on the + sign next to the folder... I believe this emulates an option Win Exploder also has...
I think what's happening to you is an altogether different issue... and is abnormal. I gather though, that if you hit to refresh either display that the folder tree re-orients itself and expands properly?
Either way I'm not sure what causes this... I seem to recall it coming up here and there over the years, but can't remember or find any reference to someone tracing down it's cause here in the forums.
Maybe a conflict with some esoteric windows system setting or some other software?

The 'Expand Selected Branch' option just means ...
Yes you are correct. I don't really need or want that options.

Oh that sucks. You mean your tree folder does follow what is happening
in the file dispay area? (As I suspected it should).

Surprisingly enough, (or selecting refresh) does not cause the folder tree to re-orient. I guess when I saw it working, that was a fluke, at least for my setup. I even tried rebooting, but no change.
Speaking of rebooting ... After I reboot, clicking on the Dopus icon does not start dopus, although I hear some disk churning. On the next click, the Dopus window will appear, as well as for all subsequent clicks ... i.e. it is only the very first click after a reboot that seems wrong. (I may have disabled autostarting Dopus on system startup, but I wouldn't think that would matter). Could this be related to my other problem?
Either way I'm not sure what causes this...
I don't recall anything that unusual about my setup.
Any body else have any ideas on how to fix this. (I do find
it quite annoying.)
It works for me. Turn on Expand selected branch and also make sure the lock icon directly above the folder tree is "open", and when I double-click on a sub-folder it is selected and expanded in the tree as the directory is changed.
Maybe you have the lock icon closed, in which case the folder tree will not respond to changes in the file display at all. (That's what the lock icon does.)
From his screenshots, he DOES have the folder tree format lock turned on...
THAT is deinitely what is causing your problem pmennen - well caught by Leo. But there should be no reason at all to enable Expand selected branch option. Just opening the folder tree format lock should fix it...
P.S> Please open a new topic about the 'after reboot clicking the Opus shortcut doesn't open a lister' issue as it's not related to the original question... and I'll answer in the new thread .
Problem solved (after clicking on both locks). Many thanks.
I don't remember hitting that lock icon although I must have at some point.
And I didn't remember reading about it in the documentation, although I have little doubt that it is in there. There is so much detail, it is easy to miss some of this stuff.
