Can't find Flat View

Win7 x64
Opus 10.0.5

Hi,

I can't seem to find Flat View.

From what I have read here,
gpsoft.com.au/help/opus10/de ... t_View.htm

all I need to do is click on the Folder Options menu icon and select the Flat View mode from the Flat View menu.

The problem is that I do not have the menu options listed in the above link, when I click on the Folder Options menu icon I get the following, please see attached images.

One screen shot is when I click on the main body of the icon,

the other is when I click on the down arrow,

thanks for your help and a great app.

Nope. That´s the wrong department. You have to look in -> tools -> view -> flat view.
The direct command would be The direct command is Set FLATVIEW=On,Grouped,Toggle
for the grouped view, as one of three variants.

@abr: Sorry, but the default Menu bar in Opus doesn't have a 'View' sub-menu at all, either on the toolbar directly, or located under the 'Tools' menu... perhaps that's a customization of yours?

@sbd: ...the online help is correct, I think you just overlooked the bottom most item under the 'Folder Options' menu button. You'll notice that the graphic in that help page has sort of a broken line cutting through the middle of that part of the menu:

...I think they probably just did that to imply they omitted the middle 10 items or so on that menu, presumably to save some space on the help page since it's kind of a long menu list. After you click on the 'Folder Options' toolbar button, don't then also click on the 'Folder Options...' button, which is the first button on the menu... Instead, follow all the way down the menu list and you'll see the Flat View menu.

Steje, you´re right, i don´t really use the default bars. But still it seems to me, that the "tools" menus has something like that "view" option on top, where you also can find the large or small icons,
thumbnail or tiles modes. Just among those items i suppose you find the "flat view" too. At least i do here. But i was rather talking about that drop down menu on top, not the toolbar.

Not sure what you're seeing on the Tools menu, or where exactly you're referring to by "drop down menu on top", but both are presumably customizations you've made; as the only place Flat View shows up on any of the default toolbars is under the 'Folder Options' toolbar menu suggested in the manual.

As you may imagine, I also extensively customize my Opus . I then keep copies of the default toolbars and menu's saved off as v10.<toolbar_name>... etc etc, that I turn on when trying to help people find stuff.

Well, i mean this one

Sorry for the german menues, but you might figure out, what i mean.

I can really recommend the "full menu toolbar" found in the toolbars sub-forum; it has all the commands gathered together and helped me a lot in the beginning. From those commands you can always build your own toolbars or menus once you get used to things. That is how I did anyway.

That menu looks like a heavily customized combination of the Opus 9 menus. It's nothing like the default menus (at least not anymore, and from memory not really ever) so advising people based on that will just confuse things even more.

--> Sbd, Steje's first reply has all the info you want; you can ignore the rest of this thread if it's confusing.

I don't think there is much, if anything, in it which isn't already in the default toolbars. Using a non-standard toolbar will just make it harder to follow the menu. It makes sense to customize things if you want things in different places, but remember it also complicates things.

Thanks everyone, I worked out what I was doing wrong.

If you go under toolbars there is a 'Toolbar' but that is the wrong one, you need to select 'Menu', both 'Toolbar' and 'Menu' have the same icon on their toolbar (the one with the question mark and the pencil), it's the one under 'Menu' I was looking for.

Consider this resolved.

Long live the Opus!

If you've got a "Toolbar" toolbar then it must've been imported from an Opus 9 config.

The manual always refers to the three default Opus 10 toolbars: Location, Menu and Operations.

Leo I'd sat you are correct as I've updated through a few Opus versions.

My current Toolbar menu has the three you mention, Location, Menu and Operations, then a line break and ten more toolbars.

thanks again.

Leo, that full menu toolbar does not replace any of the official toolbars so you can always use it alongside the official ones. And it is a pretty complete collection of all commands sorted under common menu items. I only stated that I found it useful and personally I would have liked to see that included in Dopus itself, but I think there is also a few people feeling overwhelmed with so many commands. It is just a matter of taste I guess.

I think Leo's point is simply that when you point another user towards finding something they're looking for, it's more likely to be of any real help if you assume they've only got whatever comes with Opus by default.

Certainly, any pointers based on a heavily personalized custom toolbar will be impossible for anyone to make sense of ... If you refer to something included in a download-able toolbar here on the forum, I guess that's ok as long as you call it out. But really... if somebody's already having trouble finding something - I'd just as soon point them to the default stuff than handing them "additional" instructions on downloading, then installing, then finding something 'extra'. Of course - that's just me .

This is why I keep copies of all the default Opus stuff... and when I think I can help somebody find something, I flip them on and go find it. Even then I miss stuff though...
