When I do a single filerename (F2), I first have to push the 'End'-key and thén move
to the left with the cursor-left key to the position where I want to make the changes.
If I donot use the 'End'-key first, the cursor left key results in the cursur jump
to the start of the name, being similar to hitting Home key.
Actually I donot like this behaviour, it has 'frustrated' me for a long time.
I am not sure how change the behaviour of this key, if at all it is possible.
Yes, but assuming that I've interpreted the original post correctly, the point is that I have to use two keys to perform an action that logically should require only one.
When I enter Rename mode, the cursor is positioned at the end of the name before the extension. I've adapted to this and it doesn't really bother me, but, logically, I'd like to push just Left and have the cursor start moving left through the name.
I don't need Left to move to the beginning of the name, because I can use Home if that's what I really want to do.
Guess we have to accept that Directory Opus is acts different from other apps on this point.
Have no knowledge about programming, so can only assume it will result in a dramatic overhaul of DO code to assign a different action to this key, i.e. move 1 position to the left instead of 'jump to beginning of the line'. Anyway, maybe some time in future.
Different apps do different things. There isn't a real standard. Both TextPad and Internet Explorer behave the same way as Opus, for example.
The way it works in Opus now is entirely intentional. No way will be perfect for every person, but I don't see it as a big ordeal that you have to push right then left if you want to edit the 2nd last character of a filename.
FWIW, we'll be adding a new option, Rename INLINE=endstem which lets you tell Opus to start inline rename with the cursor positioned at the end of the filename (just before the file extension, without anything selected at all), since that was missing from the options we already had.
