The 3rd pic is Display - Status Bar. Could you make one of Display - Colors & Fonts (with Other Colors - Status Bar selected) instead?
What colour are you aiming for the background to be, too?

I've attached the correct screenshot. This time using forum build-in feature 
I've just realised what it is. Go to Preferences - Listers - Options and turn off Show glass status bar in Windows Vista.
If the status bar is glass then the background colour is always whatever colour the window glass is set to.
