Clear search history in find window

I'm new to this forum and tried to do my search duty , but couldn't find an answer yet.

It's about the find window. Whenever I do my second find, the directory I start in is always there, as I expected.
But then there's also the previous find-path. I don't want that. Mostly it's a large unwanted extension on my target area.

How will I avoid that search path history?

Do you mean the history in the drop-down list of previous paths, or do you mean that a previous path stays around in the list directly below the drop-down?

Thanks for the reply. I meant what you point out as LIST.

To clear that list click on the arrow next to the X button above. (Or hold Shift and click the X button itself.)

By the way, you never have to add things to that list unless you want to search more than one folder at once. Whatever is in the edit box above will also be searched.

I knew I could use the X. The thing is, I want it to be default behaviour to have that list history cleared, when I start a new search. Most of my searches got nothing to do with each other. It's often I just want to search the directory I'm in at that moment.

If you only want to search the directory you're in at the moment just make sure the lock icon (near the X icon) is pushed in so that the current path is used automatically in the field above the list, and don't put anything at all in the list.

If you don't put anything in the list then you never need to clear it.

It seems to look fine when i use the listner find panel. But there is no such button when i use F3 or ctrl F.

The lock button isn't needed for the separate Find window. When it opens the path is automatically set to the current lister's path (if there is a current lister) and from then on the window is independent of the lister (if any) that launched it.

So when you press Ctrl-F you get the current path in the field. What else do you want it to do?

What I want, is to only search that "current lister's path". The problem is that it also takes the path that's left behind.
And when that's a big directory it takes a long time to finish the search.

Example:

  1. I am on "D:" and wanted to find "test.doc". I press F3.
The "D:" is in the "Drop-down" and the find works like I expect.
    I close my find window.
  2. I am on "C:\temp\myfolder" and want to find "mark.bat". I press F3.
The "C:\temp\myfolder" is in the "Drop-down", but "D:" has moved to "List".

So now when I press "Find", Opus looks for "mark.bat" in both "D:" and "C:\temp\myfolder".

If I want to undo that, I now first press "New folder", so the "current lister's path ("C:\temp\myfolder")" moves to the "List" as well,
and then remove (Alt+R) the first path ("D:").
When I now press "Find" only the latest "current lister's path" is searched for.

So what I want is the previous path not to move to the "List".

I hope I made it a little more clear.

I don't understand why the path is moving into the List. It should only do that if you click the button above to add it to the list. If you don't click that button (and you don't have to) then it won't be added to the list. At least, as I understand things.

Could you go to Settings -> Customize -> Keys and double-click the entry for F3 to confirm that it just runs the Find command on its own? If the command was modified then it might explain what's going on.

There's a Dutch expression, literally: "the eye of the master".

Right now I cannot reproduce my own described situation. It is working like you tell me it should.
But I'm sure it was like I described yesterday.

I might come back later if I find out what happend then.

Thank you so much for your time right now.
