Have you ever thought about an integrated progress pane or just a single dialog that shows all progress aware operations in a single dialog (e.g. similar to the queue list in the copy dialog).
Multiple tasks can be stacked on top of each other and each of them has an own progress bar. I know this visualization from several download managers and I like that very much. Particurlarly for complex file management tasks that provides a much better overview than having 10 dialogs floating around.
