I want to configure further meta-data to be shown below the image in thumbnail mode.
But in "File Types / Images" there is only a tab for "Tiles Mode".
Thus I'm wondering how (where) to configure the fields to be used in thumbnail mode?

You can't; the only options for which metadata is displayed in thumbnails mode is what's in the Preferences page for thumbnails mode. If you want more/different metadata, you have to use tiles mode.
If I enable "Show Thumbnails in Tiles mode" I can not use the slider in the toolbar for the thumbnail size of the tiles.
Whant I need is a view showing thumbnails with user defined meta-data and a thumbnail-size-slider in the toolbar.
If this isn't possible I propose to introduce a tiles-size-slider similar as the existing thumbnail-size-slider.
Good idea actually. I am struggling with the same problems.
Hmm, it seems that in tiles-mode the thumbnails are not fully loaded for the folder, instead only the tiles are loaded that are visible in the viewport.
If I press page-down I have to wait several seconds until the tiles of the next page are incrementally decoded.
Particurlarly with slow network drives this behaviour makes a navigation of large image collections like walking through honey.
