Could anyone please advise on how to use the Copy Buffer Size option to achieve the best performance in Copy operations (Jon)?
I mean, it's 64 KB by default. But if I increase this value or decrease it in certain cases like copying between different disks or acrross the network, will it make any difference?
You shouldn't normally need to change it. Changing it may improve things but it'll be device dependent so there isn't any one best configuration. Experiment if you want, but if things are not going wrong or slowly then it's probably not worth spending time on.
In the past there have been a few USB flash drives with buggy firmware which fail to copy if the buffersize isn't set to certain values but if you don't experience problems with such a device, and things aren't copying slower than you would expect to other drives, then there's no need to change the buffer size.
Actually, I asked this question because someone advised me to use a free tool called "Copy Handler", and I found those options as in the link below. http://www.copyhandler.com/en/screenshots/6.html
So, I thought I could make some buttons that make the copy operations with different buffer sizes according to copy parties.
So my question is: is the buffer size setting in the URL above the same as DO's one?
I guess it's the same thing. Buffer size just means how big the chunks are as files are being read/written. If you do find different sizes have a significant effect then let us know but in my experience the default size copies things as fast as the network or physical drive will allow so there's usually no need to change it.
