Hello:

I am adding an increasing amount of image files in Dopus that have foreign letters in them (Swedish letters åäöÅÄÖ, as well as Norwegian and Dansih letters). They all come at the end of the Scandinavian alphabets. Most image files are .jpg, so I cannot add comments to them, so I have to, mostly, identify them correctly in the file name, and thus, I want to use the Swedish letters in these file names.

I do not want to set language or keyboard to Swedish, so it would be neat if DOpus would allow 'correct' sorting with foreign letters. Any way to achieve this (can't find anything in manual, archive or web)? Comment: FoxPro, my database app, allows correct sorting when text to be sorted contain foreign letters (you have to adjust settings).

Regards,

Hans L

It should already, based on your locale.

There is no one "correct" sort order. Sorting depends on your locale.

Different locales sort letters (and sometimes combinations of letters) in different orders to each other.

You could use a script column if you wanted custom sorting which was different to your chosen locale in Windows, but you would need to define the rules you wanted in the script, to then use its column for sorting instead of the normal Name column.

You can add comments to JPG files. What makes you think that you can't?

I may not understand this, but HansL says "I do not want to set language or keyboard to Swedish". Doesn't this make his locale English?

rcoleman, you are right. So, I would have to go the script way, I assume.

Keyboard and Locale are two different things. HansL has to set his Locale to Swedisch. His keyboard can be 'US International' (or whatever he likes).

Leo, I will respond to the rest later, but how do you add comments to .jpg files (I thought I had seen that it was not possible, only in some other image files types, possibly tiff)?

Same way as any other type of file. You can use the Comment field in the metadata panel, or the Set Description option in the menu attached to the Properties button on the default toolbars.

Add a new column is a good solution for you, as we do it in Chinese character, I don't know about Swedish, here is a script to all a new column reference for you.

I realize that Metadata panel can be reached via the app you use to edit/view etc. the jpg file, but as to Properties, I see only tabs General, Security, Details, and Previous Versions, no Comments. Except, of course, that I just now realize that it is in Details you can add information. Thank you, Leo.

Except that I need Norwegian and Danish letters to also sort 'correctly'. Is there a Scandinavian locale?

You might be able to do it in there as well, but that is the Properties dialog which is part of Windows. I was talking about this:

_the **Set Description** option in the menu attached to the **Properties button** on the default toolbars_
