Default Browser

I have a program icon/shortcut on the menu bar. It's a website (asp) and the url is in the Function Field and the path to IE7 is in the Start In field.

When I click on the icon it fires up just fine but in another browser that I do have designated as the primary browser (somewhere in my computer setup!).

All I want is for this program to open in IE7 but despite being told to open IE7, I can't get it to do so. Is there a way to force this to happen?

Try navigating to the IE7 program directory and then put Opus in customize mode. Next then drag the IE7 executable file to an empty spot on a toolbar. That will create a button to launch IE7. Then still in customize mode edit that button in advanced mode and insert your URL after the IE7 executable file. Something like the long line below which launches IE7 then goes to the Associated Press headlines page.

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe "http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/fronts/HOME?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME"

Thanks for the quick reply. And you're giving away your age with that avatar! Used to watch him all the time when I was younger.

I'll give it a try.

Yeah John,
I've wondered about that.
Just what is that Avatar ?

Regards,
Zippo

P.S.
BTW, I'll be writing you again soon.
I've now seen my ancient PHP photo gallery on a widescreen LCD Samsung monitor.
You of course know the address.
Perhaps I can clean this stuff up for some Directory Opus users.
It's a big recursive Dir search with some nice ordering options in Admin.
Hi Steje !

I have waited a long time for someone to ask me about my avatar, to be honest I'm surprised it took this long.

Altstatten obviously knows, and he's right in that it gives away my age bracket. One of my favorite comedians of all time was Red Skelton from back in the 40s and 50s. Amongst his many talents he often portrayed several fictional characters and one of them was Clem Kadiddlehopper. My avatar is that character. Clem was a lovable dunce, a lamebrain, a simpleton who stumbled his way through life. So why did I choose him as my avatar?

Because I'm married and that's the same way my wife describes me.

Let's not forget Heathcliff the Seagull!

And Mr. Skelton was an accomplished oil painter, well-known for his portraits of other clowns, as well as ending all of his shows with, "May God Bless!" Another time I'm afraid we'll not see again. What a treasure he was.

I may steal your avatar...........

P.S. I've worked for a guy for 13 years now that is from a family of about 13 people, a family of Iowa hog-farmers, as he puts it. Really, real hogs. Quinn is his last name. know any Quinns, John?

P.S.S. And my avatar is a pic of my two boys from a long time ago.

I just assumed it was a picture of you

The Start In field doesn't set which program opens the file; it sets which folder is the "current directory" when the target file or command is launched.

To use a specific program to open a file you have to run the program directly, usually passing the file as an argument.

If you run the file by itself then it will be launched by whatever is registered to handle that type of file or URL.

Naw, I ain't that good lookin jon.

Altstatten I'm for sure in the middle of hog country here, but I can't say I know any Quinns

Clem,

Your solution above worked jsut fine. And I appreciate the additional input from the other contributors.

Thanks again!
