"Delete File" only works when done twice

Hi Forum,

DOpus recently has started to react on "delete" commands (e.g. highlighting a file and pressing the "delete" button on the toolbar or on the keyboard) only after clicking a second time on the already selected file.

If a file is only clicked (selected) once, it is not possible to delete the file.

Further (as already reported a couple of times), the Copy Filter and Delete Filter tend to activate themselves, and the respective Dialog shows up at random delete/copy actions without having been user-activated in the respective menu.

Thanks for consideration,
David.P

I haven't heard of this problem before, does it also happen when you use Explorer?

If I were you, I'd submit a formal support request at the web site since this is just a user to user forum.

Only in DOpus.

I did already file a formal support request about this, some months ago.

So you select the file, then click delete and nothing happens, and then when you click on the already-selected file again the delete suddenly takes place?

What command does the delete button run?

What settings do you have under Preferences - File Operations - Deleting Files?

Something must be turning them on. Do you have any buttons/hotkeys/menu items which turn on, or just use, the Copy or Delete filters? Could you be triggering the default menu items by mistake sometimes? (e.g. by pressing 'o' or 'e' when the Settings menu is open)

Hi Leo,

... and then press Del, only then the file gets deleted.

The command named "Delete".

Here:

Before the filters were starting to turn themselves on, I didn't even know that they existed... So I've never used them at all. The settings menu has not been open either.

Is there a pre-defined hotkey in DOpus that triggers these filters, which could be activated accidentially by some other program that sends keystrokes?

Thanks

I'd say there has to be SOMETHING in your config that could be triggering this... if I were you, when next either of the problems happen, I'd backup your Opus config, rename to zip, search through all the exported config files for any 'sensitive' info... and think about either uploading the rezipped config backup to the forum or send to a willing guinea pig via PM.

Maybe we can reproduce with your config...

But let me get the delete issue straight:

  • click file (file is highlighted?)
  • hit delete key (nothing happens... is file still highlighted?)
  • click once on file again (this doesn't enter the file into inline rename mode???)
  • hit delete key again (file gets deleted?)

WEIRD!!!

Good idea!

Maybe we can reproduce with your config...

- click file (file is highlighted?) YES to both
- hit delete key (nothing happens... is file still highlighted?) YES to both
- click once on file again (this doesn't enter the file into inline rename mode???) I have to click on the icon, otherwise it goes into rename mode. OR I de-select, re-select, and then hit DEL and the file is successfully deleted.
- hit delete key again (file gets deleted?) YES

Thanks,
David.P

Does the Del problem still happen if you turn on delete confirmations (first checkbox) and/or turn off the Recycle Bin option (the only ticked checkbox in your screenshot)?

Also, do you get the same result if you click somewhere else on the lister, instead of the file's icon? It sounds like the first time you hit Del it is being swallowed by something else and clicking on the file's icon is simply activating the lister so that the next time Del is pressed it goes to the right place. Do you have the preview pane open and displaying PDF, ActiveX or Web content, for example?
