Description field lost when copying folder

I have a folder containing PDFs and the description field is filled in for most of them. If I create a copy of the folder (Rclick Copy, Rclick Paste) then the description field for all PDFs in the copy is blank.

Is Preferences / File Operations / Copy Attributes / Preserve the descriptions of copied files turned on?

Yes

What type of drive are the files being copied to?

Just a normal hard drive on my computer (C:)

Having checked some more, it's actually Preferences / File Operations / Copy Attributes / Copy metadata (comments, keywords, etc) that is the important setting with PDF files.

(We probably need to rename the options slightly as they're confusing now that the description is stored in different ways for different filetypes/configurations.)

Many thanks. I ticked that and it now works.

Incidentally (slightly different issue) why does the Description (as set using Opus) not show up in Explorer?

Opus and Explorer don't always support the same metadata fields for a given file type.

Explorer also dropped support for generic description/comment metadata in Vista or Windows 7 (I forget which) on the grounds that it doesn't work on non-NTFS drives and some network drives so it was better for it not to work anywhere. OTOH, Opus supports it where possible, in addition to storing descriptions/comments in the files themselves if they have a suitable metadata format that Opus knows how to use (e.g. MP3 ID3 tags.)
