Is there a way to achieve the Details pane of Windows Explorer in DO? I know tooltips can be used in a similar way, but the need to position you mouse steadily over an item and then wait until the tooltip appears makes them proper only for occasional use.
The closest current equivalent to see similar info at a glance might be the Metapane, but its not totally the same info.
Perhaps some extensions to the status bar codes would make sense? For instance, being able to specify something like {fileinfo|h2} to add whatever would normally show up for the fileinfo tip to the statusbar, with the information displayed in 2 vertical rows (ala the |h2 to set a height of "2")... or some such convention. Some people might want more granular control than whatever happens to be in the info tip... but such changes could always be made to the infotip for the filetypes instead and then just "trickle down" to the status bar.
A details pane or similar is the one feature that I would most like to see in Opus.
I have never really liked tooltips, but resorted to using them for a time. Opus allows nice customization of said tooltips; now if we could just get a details pane that offered the same abilities. Integrating the abilities into the status bar, as steje mentioned, could be interesting.
Metapane is completely not configurable. Fe. for changing music files metadata I start another program anyway, just because it is configured for what I need.
I agree that status bar would be OK place, provided that it can be expanded to more rows.
