This seems to have occurred overnight. Long filenames were shortened to 8 in Detail view. List view is OK, but I like the details shown and also the full name. Last night it worked as desired.

There is a "Short Name" column in Opus, but I don't think it's possible to remove the normal Name column and use that instead; you can only use it as well as the normal column, so it can't be that. There's nothing else I can think of.
