Dir Opus won't copy files with names of type 'ABCDEF~2.TXT'

Directory Opus won't copy files with names formatted in the DOS short name form 'ABCDEF~2.TXT' where the 'tilde' is included, whereas Windows Explorer, PowerDesk and others have no problems copying such files.

This issue has bedeviled D.O. for ages. It's an extremely irritating and annoying problem when one's copy gigabytes of data from say one drive to another; when D.O. encounters files with this name format it essentially halts.

How do I get around the problem (given that many of my archived drives may contain thousands of files so named)?
