Directory Opus 10.0.2.2 (2011/12/09)

Hello,

That's what i've noticed after installing the update:

  1. The toolbars get re-ordered (to defaults?) except my modified-Menu one, who was still there.

  2. The "Universal Graphics Viewer" seems to cause some weird issue with thumbnails. (hovering some jpeg images there's no thumb on the tooltyp)

  3. The most annoying one: MMB'ing any file other than images always shows the message "xyz is invalid or not recognized picture format"

1 and 2 was easy to fix, but no luck with 3, however... it smells to me like in the past i had the same issue and resolved it somehow, just can't remember how atm.

Also it may worth mentioning that like most times i've updated DOpus and K-Lite codec pack at the same time, and for the first time ever after rebooting i get a warning dialog from w7 stating that my machine recovered from a BSOD...(!?)... i didn't saw such a thing, and as i said that's the first time i get something related to BSOD on w7...

In the other hand, my system looks/feels more responsive now somehow... don't ask - no idea, maybe every issue is related to my system only so don't get disappointed if you want to try the new version

Well, any clue regarding issue 3?

Thank you.

The 10.0.2.2 update should not have changed anything in those areas. Since you got a BSOD (which user-mode applications like Opus cannot cause, except by doing something innocent that triggers a bug in the OS, drivers or physical hardware) it indicates there's a problem with your OS install, drivers or hardware that goes beyond Opus or any particular app.

(Note that drivers aren't just hardware drivers. They can also be things like virtual disks -- TrueCrypt, Daemon Tools and that kind of thing -- and anti-virus/firewall software that runs at a very low level.)

I'd also strongly recommend against upgrading anything at the same time as a video codec or codec pack. Video codecs often have bugs and introduce instability, so it is best to upgrade them by themselves so that if problems start afterwards you know it was almost certainly them and not anything else. Some video codecs also work very closely to the hardware (e.g. using GPU acceleration for decoding H264) which may be the trigger for BSODs (but only when the decoders are invoked; however, that can happen in more situations than just playing video on the screen).

Given your first problem (toolbars being re-ordered, which suggests a config file got corrupted) I'd say it is worth checking your system drive's health with SMART tools and doing a disk scan. Check the CPU isn't overheating or anything like that, too. (Fans aren't clogged with dust, it's not overclocked, etc.)

(Toolbars would be re-ordered if you uninstalled the old version and then installed the new version, since that resets your config, but in that case it would have reset your modified Menu toolbar as well.)

Also, re issue 3, what have you got MMB configured to do in Opus and/or your mouse drivers? MMB would not try to open a file under any of the default settings.

Wow, thank you for the detailed reply, very much appreciated.

Something else i forgot about is that i've updated my Marvell Yukom (Ethernet) driver as well (several hours before, and without rebooting), and reconfigured it changing some settings (recv/send buffers, removing power-save mode, etc), so probably that's what caused the "hidden" BSOD :unamused:

The past week i ran chkdsk and found there was some problems with my C:\ as well... so certainly my laptop isn't in its best days...

Defraggler, a tool which i use weekly at least, recently added SMART features, and it tells my HD is in a "good" state...

Hmm, i've forgot it isn't the default - this must be alzheimer

Filetypes -> "All Files" -> Edit -> Middle double-click -> SHOW

So... it's the SHOW command the faulty somehow... eg, it tells .txt files cannot be shown because they aren't images (neither clicking on the HEX button causes the hex-dumps to be shown)

Try disabling all of your Opus viewer plugins except for the Text plugin. Does the Show command work on text files then?

Seems everything was caused by a wrong/faulty installation, re-installating DOpus a couple of times resolved the problem.

Well, thanks Leo for your help/time.
