When I click the Desktop button in DO, while I see the icons, there are no file names. Is there a way to configure the Desktop button so that either the text appears under the icons or it appears as a list?
Thanks.

Could you post a screenshot? AFAIK there's no view mode which displays icons without any labels so I'm not sure what's going on.
Attached.
Right-click some empty space in the folder and see if you can change the View Mode. (Or try doing it through the View menu.)
I can change the view mode, but it always reverts back to the default - whether I press the Desktop button on the Programs bar or I press the Tab that I have labeled Desktop. How do I change these two places to always show a list instead?
Also, any idea why there aren't any file names with the icons in the current view? I'm pretty sure that they were there are one time.
Do you get labels in thumbnails mode in other folders? You can adjust the number of lines for the label in Preferences but I didn't think you could set it to 0!
I do get labels on thumbnails in other folders, just not with the Desktop.
Is the same true in Explorer?
BTW, a quick way to solve the problem for now is to go to /desktopdir instead of Desktop.
Works fine in Explorer.
Try typing /dopusdata into the Opus location field, then go into the Formats sub-directory, delete system.off and restart Opus.
system.off is the file that stores the settings for "virtual" folders such as Desktop; deleting it should reset them back to defaults.
Tried that, but it didn't work.
I'm out of ideas, assuming we're talking about Opus 9 and not Opus 8.
Hold down the shift key when you select thumbnail view. This toggles between labels & no labels.
Wow, you're right! I wonder if that's a hidden feature of Explorer or if it's a bug/unfinished feature that nobody was supposed to find?
(For anyone confused, the Desktop virtual folder in Opus is still displayed by Explorer.)
No, it's not a bug, it's a hidden feature:

(see: Working with files)
You can also change the Thumbnail size by using RegEdit...
Strange way to hide a feature, but I guess it's no different to the way you can shift-click the Name column in Opus to sort by extension. You wouldn't think to do either without reading the manual or being told about it.
There seems to be a problem with the feature on my Vista machine:
The filenames never come back again in thumbnails mode until I close the Explorer window and open a new one. The space for the filenames comes back but there's nothing in it. (i.e. The thumbnails are more spaced out but still have no labels until I open a new window.)
That, combined with the odd (IMO) way the modes/filenames seem to cycle, is why I wondered if it was a bug rather than an intended feature, but the URL you posted clears it up. (i.e. Explorer has a bug in an intended feature.)
This is a big help. Thanks.
How do I make the default to show the file names? While clicking Shift and Thumbnails works it doesn't seem to save the setting.
Perhaps you have to change the settings in Windows Explorer, because the Desktop virtual folder in Opus is still displayed by Explorer, but i'm not sure...
It comes up fine in Windows Explorer.
When I hold shift and select Thumbnail view settings are saved. I can't reproduce the problem on my machine...
Do you use Vista or XP?
