DO12 - Accessing the Dopus icon files for use with status icons

When I go to select an icon to use with a button I’m presented with a big list of icons from all the .dis files setup under preferences\toolbars\icons.

However when I go to select an icon to use as a status icon it only showed me the icons embedded within the dopus.exe file. I eventually figured out the .dis files are located in C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\Icons but when I browsed to that location and selected a .dis file but it didn’t show any icons.

Is there any way for me to get access to all the dopus icons the same way I do when selecting an icon for a button when I’m setting up status icons?

Status icons have to be real icons, i.e. .ico files or icons embedded in .exe or .dll files, or single image files, due to the way they are displayed by the system.

Toolbar icons are in the wrong format (both file format and sizes/image formats). You would have to manually convert them into icons if you wanted to use them and there aren't already similar icons in the exe. (A handful of images do have icon versions, but only where we need them.)

Ok didn't realise that. If dopus supports dll and exe but not dis files in this situation is there a method or utility to convert dis files into a single exe or dll that contains all the icons?

I'd like to create a single icon exe\dll that I can access whenever I want use an icon and have them all in one place.

They're basically just .zip files with a different suffix, if you rename them you can go inside them and extract the icon images. Depending on the icon set though you may need to use Paint or similar to copy the individual image out of the larger set.

Hi Jon,

Just unzipped the dis files but all I’m seeing are a couple of .png files containing all the icons and an .xml file. I don’t think these will be any good will they?

As Jon said, you may need to use Paint or similar to copy the individual image out of the larger set.

Depending on the set the icons may also need resizing.

OK so it sounds like using the existing dopus icons for status icons is more complicated and time consuming than I thought it would be.

Given the effort involved I think it would just be easier and faster to download some new icons from a free icon site, which is a shame because the dopus icons are really nice, high quality icons.

Thanks anyway.

I was able to convert the entire DOpusBasicV2-large.png icon set to separate .ico files in a minute using imagesplitter.net

After uploading the png, click on the Split Image tab. Enter in the number of columns and rows. Pick .ico from the drop-down box. Click on Split Image to download a .zip full of .ico's

Great! Thanks for that i'll give it a go. Sounds like it's exactly what I need.

Did you want to use these icons with the new status icon feature as well?

No, not really. Just helping out a fellow DO user because I found a solution.

Ktbcrash,

I've just used the imagesplitter site and it worked like a charm, it only took a minute or two.

Thanks for taking the time to post about that, it's nice to have the option of using the dopus icons for status icons.
