recently installed DO12B4 on my Windows 10 client. It takes a very long time until a lister opens, independent if I open it by double-clicking the desktop or by using the right-click menu of DOpus´ tray icon.
I have set the option to remember the last folder when closing DOpus but I always make sure to be somewhere on C:\ before I close the last lister (that's a habit because I often closed the last lister on a network drive and got timeouts when re-opening it when the network location was no longer available).
You probably have something in your toolbars which is pointing to an inaccessible network location, or similar.
Does it still happen if you reset to the factory default toolbars? (Right-click the background of a toolbar to find the option. Of course, backup your config first if you have modified the toolbars and don't want to lose those changes. Settings > Backup & Restore is the quickest way.)
I just installed DO12B5 to see if my issue gets solved. Unfortunately it still takes about 10 seconds to open the first lister. Opening a second or third lister works fine. It always the first lister, after the last one has been closed.
Please use Process Monitor to capture a log of all filesystem and registry access (filters are at the right of its toolbar buttons), then open a window in the way which triggers the slow-down, and finally export the log in .PML format (do not use .CSV) using its File menu.
Zip and email the log to leo@gpsoft.com.au and I will see if it reveals what is causing the slowdown.
I think I found the issue. It's the favorites. I have a couple of favorites, which point to a location which is not always reachable (i.e. UNC path to a folder in my company is not reachable when I'm at home without VPN connection). DOpus seems to check the availability of all shares within the favorites before it shows the lister. When I remove the favorites from the folder tree (Preferences -> Folder Tree -> Contents -> Favorites [uncheck]), the lister appears normally in less than a second.
Could you add an option to prevent DOpus from evaluating the favorites path before it displays the lister or, alternatively, process the favorites validation after the lister has shwon?
I have this issue in 3 computers. Two are fast & modern, running W10 Pro. One is an old laptop (10 years old) running W7 Enterprise.
I upgraded the 2 to W10 Pro in mid-March 2016--one from W7 Ult., one from Win8.1 Pro. The old one is still on W7.
In both computers with W10, loading a lister layout takes 15-30 seconds. In the old laptop it is virtually instantaneous. I followed W@ng's suggestion and unchecked the Favorites in Prefs, but it makes no difference. I also checked that I don't have layouts/listers/recents, etc., pointing to non-existent folders or machines that are turned off.
I have only had this problem with the 2 W10 computers since upgrading to W10. Given that the old, slow laptop now runs DOpus much faster than the fast machines, I wonder if the problem is the interaction between DOpus and W10.
I've just linked my account, so I'm re-posting this in case it gets seen sooner once I'm linked.

Update: since yesterday or the day before, DOpus listers have opened as fast as they ever did, on both W10 computers. I didn't change anything, in DOpus or out of it, but there were some Windows updates...
I've had the same problem and have been meaning to get around to solving it. Like W@ng said, removing the UNC favorites fixed it for me. Where do we report bugs?
Also W@ng, you can change the auto-loading settings so it doesn't automatically load network paths and asleep drives when you open the lister. It just comes up with a notification at the top and a link to "Click here to read the directory". Its in Settings -> Preferences -> Folders -> Auto-Loading. I set Drives that are powered down, FTP sites and Network drives to "Prevent loading".
Ooh I just discovered that using Aliases instead of Favorites (what the hell is the difference?) works well. I can have my network locations at the top of the folder tree and the lister starts instantly again.
