DO12 - Set MANUALSORT - no effect

I tried multiple times, the "Set MANUALSORT" command, as described in the release notes, does not seem to work for me.
I needed to enter the folder format options and tick the "manual sort" checkbox to get that "wrench" icon in the top left.

Ah, now after posting I see my mistake, you need to add "=on/off".
So the full command reads like this: "Set MANUALSORT=on" and voila! o)

Thanks. o)

Thanks for your post... It let me know that this is a feature now. I was hoping Opus could have this one day. Wow this is great, too good to be true when combined with renaming options. Was your use of it in a command, script, button? I see the use of this for renaming, but are there other things this is useful for? Thanks

There are even more features in the beta releaae notes PDF.

Would it be possible to create a button that toggles the on or off state of this option? Thanks

Yes:

Just a small question, but how exactly does that "multiple custom sort" work? I have made three customs sorts in the prefs now, plus the "standard" one, making four, right? I'm not sure. I managed to save one layout, somehow, but for most of the time, the "save sort order" function is greyed out. How can i systematically save those three custom sorts (home/work/special) one after another?

If i want to change an existing one, how can i re-save it? It was greyed out, too. I have tried to reset them in the other menu, to make the "save" function reappear, but finally couldn't figure out, how it works. Also, what is the role of the "standard" item? Is it the standard sorting without the manual changes? Maybe you can add some short Example to the manual, how to save two manual sorts?

Anyway, this is some very useful function, especially for music collections. :bulb:

If "Save Sort Order" is greyed out then either the sort order has not been changed and there's nothing to save, or the folder you're in doesn't support saving (e.g. it is not on an NTFS drive).

I think i got it now. First i have to select the custom sort (like "home"), i want to save. Then make the changes by dragging items around. "Save" will be enabled then. Then choose the next custom sort item ("work"), apply the changes, save again. Yes, makes sense now. Thanks!

Hmm, no wait. I could save the first example, first item, which is sorted alphabetically ("home"). When i choose the second item ("work"), sorted by "description", the save option would be grey.

Only, if i use a little "trick", & drag an item around, putting it actually back to where it came from, i can then save it. So that's maybe where the confusion came from. We must drag items in order to be able to save them. Therefore i would suggest, that in that modes of manual sorting we also could save different sortings only determined by columns sort. Even if it is technically no manual sort.

Because in this context we could want a mixture of alphabetical, by another specific column (like "catalog number"), as well as real manual sort.

Custom Sort is not for sorting by columns. If you want to sort by a column, just click on the column.

I know. But what, if we have mixed cases, like in my example? The manual sorting is my main sorting in this case with the album collection, but the other two are either sorted alphabetically, or by catalog number. I think, mixed use cases like this would be common, rather than having multiple genuine customs sorts.

Then use manual sorting when you want manual sorting, and sort by columns when you want to sort by columns.
