DOpus not showing preview of some jpg files

Recently, DOpus stopped showing some of my photo jpg images in the preview pane with an error message "It appears we don't support this file format" but did continue to show other photo jpg images!

See screen shots.

I'm at a loss to explain this behaviour and wondered if there were any problems with DOpus?

Regards
Pete

That isn't a message which would come from Opus itself. (But it seems to be one which the Windows Photos app can show: thread.)

Do you see similar in File Explorer's preview pane?

Have you checked that the files which don't work are really JPEG files and not something else with the wrong extension?

Could you zip and upload one of the files which doesn't work so we can examine it?

Hi Leo

In File Explorer the view is exactly the same as in DOpus, new jpg files are visible but older ones are not. Going back through my photo collection no images before 2021 are viewable!

The attached file shows a picture from my photo collection that is not viewable and the same image from a backup which is visible.

It looks like something happened at the end of 2020 that made images on my PC unviewable.

Christmas Show backup.zip (312.5 KB)

Thanks
Pete

Every byte in the file that doesn't work has been set to zero. Either there was a hardware failure or something erased the data. Nothing will view those files.

Did you have a ransomware attack maybe?

Leo / John

No ransomware attack or anything else strange has happened so I'm at a loss to explain how my files got wiped. I'll restore from my backups and hope I've not lost too many images.

Thanks for your help.
