DOpus restrictions on right click and middle click- options?

Hi, if I right click on a blank area of a pane in a DOpus lister, the context menu options seem very restricted. Some I'm used to seeing in explorer (from installed apps) are displayed, while others I want are not.

Similarly, I want to use middle click here, which works for most apps & open/save boxes, but DOpus does not respond.

Is there an option somewhere I've missed:?:

(Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere- it's kind of hard to do a useful search for this).

DOpus 9, XP PRO. Thanks!

First check that you haven't turned on the 'Hide Windows items on file context menus' option in Preferences / Miscellaneous / Windows Integration.

As a next step, can you be more specific about the items that aren't appearing? Maybe post a screenshot showing the context menus in both Explorer and Opus for comparison.

Finally, middle-click doesn't do anything in Explorer as far as I know - it certainly doesn't seem to for me. What are you expecting it to do?

Hi jon, thanks.

  1. No, 'Hide Windows items on file context menus' isn't ticked.
(That looks as if it affects option shown when you right click on a file- I'm asking about what happens when you right click on a blank area of a pane).

  2. Middle click on an empty pane is used by a few utility apps. I've recently found Chameleon Folder to be the most compatible dialog box and more extender program after a lot of trials- middle click in a blank pane brings up a menu of favourite and recent files and folders. Some others of this type also use this mechanism. But middle click doesn't work in DOpus, whereas it does in Open/save boxes and explorer, so I have to use Chameloen's hot key combination for that.

  3. Apps (on my PC) whose context extension additionally appears in DOpus on right click on blank area (at a level below 'My computer'):

ALZIP's 'new folder' (which of course is redundant in DOpus!)
Regtoy

  1. Apps (on my PC) whose context extension doesn't appear in DOpus on right click on blank, but does in explorer:

Shelltoy

Hope there's an answer- it would increase compatibility.

It affects both.

This is a case of Chameleon Folder hooking into Explorer directly to provide this functionality. Since they don't also hook into Opus it's to be expected that this wouldn't work.

We could look at adding a separate middle-click context folder which would let you replicate this functionality in Opus.

Are you saying these are wrong (that they shouldn't appear)? Or was this just for information?

So basically ShellToy is the only one that doesn't work? Where does that come from?

Hi Jon,

Middleclick like this is used by a couple of dialogue box etc extenders I've found while looking for one that would work across a wide range including DOpus (quite hard to achieve, apparently). So it would be good if DOpus could support this in an equivalent manner.

Chameleon Folders (www.neo-softs.com). Most 'universal' so far.

  • to answer your question:
In your first you asked which programs' context menus appeared and which didn't, hence 3 & 4 in my previous.

As I said, Shelltoys' and Regtoy's context menus appear in explorer but Shelltoys' doesn't in Dopus.

Therefore what's 'wrong' - for whatever reason- in my user experience is Shelltoys not appearing in DOpus case, whereas it does in explorer. (See attached- this doesn't happen in DOpus).

CFi ShellToys: context menu shell extensions for Windows.

Why do you think Shellltoys' context menu doesn't appear in DOpus? It does in everything else I've tried.

Thanks, David L

Actually ShellToys does seem to work in Opus, at least for me under Vista.

It's possible that on your system it has been "blocked" because at some point in the past it caused an exception. Opus will add context menu extensions to a black list automatically if they cause an exception.

Go into Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced and see if {2897079A-65DF-40E0-9711-892C3859EC3B} appears in the ignore_context_menus value - if so, ShellToys has been blocked. You can remove the GUID from this list and it should reappear - if so, maybe see if you can work out what caused it to be blocked in the first place so we can investigate the incompatibility.

Hi Jon,
Great work- I could never have found that- you're absolutely right. I've no idea what caused the exception- never noticed a specifically relevant error message.

Note: Shelltoys 'Goto Folder' doesn't have any effect in DOpus.

I've also attached Chameleon Folder's options sheet- various ways of launching its File/Folder Favourites menu.

Thanks, David L.
