After I have now upgraded to a new computer (faster!) I now also have upgraded to DOpus 9.1. No longer 8 seconds from nil to here, only 2-3. And I have really filled it up with buttons. I think it turned faster by itself too.
I have spend the better part of a day to set it up and it works quite neatly. Particularly I appreciate the introduction of "directory collapse" which I have suggested after my first experiences with V. 8.x - It makes things a lot easier! Thank you!
One problem remains: DOpus always starts in the background - meaning, also if it is the first and sole app I start the Taskbar button blinks, and I have to first alt-tab myself to DOpus before I can issue keystrokes. If I mouse to it, this is of-course, not such an issue. This is then a problem when I have another application open and I first have to dig DOpus out.
I have read Preferences/Launching Opus several times. What do I do wrong?
Your attention is highly appreciated.
Cheers, Gromax.
Ho Leo, thank you very much for your fast reply. Here are the "Preferences/Launching Opus" Settings:
Launching Opus:
Explorer Replacement
Replace Explorer for all folders
From the Desktop
Disable
From the Taskbar Icon
Open the Default Lister
Startup
Open the Default Lister
All checked checkboxes and radio buttons are mentioned here. Everything else is unchecked. Pls. let me know, if you want screenshoys of all four pages, or, if which one in particular.
I launch it in many ways. Win+X being one of my favourites. Fact is, also when I launch it with the regular Start Menu shortcut or even the "Run..." Box I end up with the blinking entry on my Taskbar - even if I don't do anything whatsoever after the launching. As much as I can remember the same problem also existed with the 8.x version on my previous computer.
DOpus 9.x behaves the same way on both of my computers I use: blinking on the Taskbar after launching by any means.
On another note, as you apparently have contributed to the fact, that DOpus now shows Oggs in the same way as MP3s in the "Music" display I wish to take the opportunity to thank you personally very much for your contribution. This was an issue I highly criticised in the 8.x release. I rip all my CDs to Ogg.
Weird. What you're describing is what happens if some other program has the input focus (i.e. is the "active window") when Opus opens its windows.
Normally when you run a program from the Desktop (which is really Explorer) or another launcher, the thing doing the launching sets a flag which allows another program to take the input focus, with the aim being that the program being launched can take it. If a program attempts to take the focus when that flag isn't set then Windows XP (and above) will usually prevent it from doing so, and instead flash the taskbar icon. (Sometimes that doesn't work and programs can still steal the focus.) It's also possible for a 3rd program to take the focus before the intended program has launched, in which case the launched program doesn't get it and will flash the taskbar instead.
Unless you're doing something like clicking on another window (which includes the Desktop) while Opus is launching, I don't know why you'd see what you are seeing.
I just did some tests on my XP machine and Opus becomes the foreground window no matter how I launch it (start menu, cmd.exe, etc.) unless I click on something else just after starting the launch. That was with Opus set to open the default lister at startup, as you've got things configured.
Opus 8 had the Ogg plugin as well, since about October 2004 anyway.
