I'm getting some strange behaviour when I double click on certain file types. Most files when double clicked simply open in their default software as defined in the File Types dialog. But when I double click on .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx files (maybe others but these are the ones I've noticed so far) the 'Open With...' dialog appears asking me to choose what software I want to open the file with. The default option (e.g. Word, Excel) is highlighted and the 'Always use...' box is checked and I click OK and then the file opens but the next time I try to open a file of that type the 'Open With...' dialog appears again.
If I right click the file instead and choose Open from the context menu then the file opens as normal without the 'Open With...' dialog appearing.
In the 'Edit 'xxxxx' File Type' window, on the Actions tab, Open is set as the default action and in the Events tab Left Double Click is as is the case for most other file types that open normally.
This only happens in Opus, double clicking in Explorer opens the file as normal.
Opus is running from a USB drive in this instance, if that makes a difference.
Thanks. The registry settings look fine to me. Very few differences between our two machines, and none that look significant.
If you type /dopusdata/FileTypes into Opus, it will take you where the Opus filetype settings are, which may override things. Could you send me the xls*.oxr files (if any) from the main directory, plus the Groups\groups.oxr file from the sub-directory to look at?
The groups.oxr is a bit strange, since it doesn't have infotips defined for the Documents type and the way the data is stored is different to in mine, but I don't think it's actually causing the problem as I copied it to my machine and could still double-click Office files without any problems.
Is anything defined for Left double-click under Settings > File Types > All files > Events or similarly under All files and folders > Events? (Normally, only the drag-and-drop events would be defined for All files and folders, with everything else undefined.)
Addition: Repairing Office may also help. Seemed to in another thread, although it's not clear what the exact issue/symptoms were there so it might be something different.
Left double-click in Settings > File Types > All files > Events and in All files and folders > Events are both undefined.
I've done a repair of Office and see no change.
Could this be related to the plugin for the internal viewer? Thinking back I might have first seen this happen when I turned off the 'ActiveX + Preview + Office + Web' Plugin. Certainly if I enable that plugin then a double click opens the file in the viewer pane. I don't have MS Office on my own PC so I have only ever seen this issue when using Opus from a USB stick on my work PC, which I guess is also why I haven't had to disable that viewer plugin on my own PC.
I have encountered the same problem, double click excel to open is ok, but double click word no response.
win10 Professional, office 365
docx.txt attached
version: 12.12
File Explorer is ok, All office files can be opened with double click.
but in Opus, double click .docx get nothing, no pop-up window.
set " Always use this app to open .docx" but no effect
If you can, it may also simplify things to switch to the "normal" version of Office; it looks like the Microsoft Store version is being used at the moment, which makes diagnosing the file type settings harder as everything is behind opaque random hashes instead of normal app names.
Failing that, the suggestion above of using FileType ACTION=open as the doubleclick action should work.
You are right, Office is Factory-owned when I buy this computer, from Microsoft Store.
And I noticed that mp3 and other music file can't open in Opus too.
