Drag & Drop Opacity level

Hi,

I'm wondering if there any settings to set the opacity level of files when you drag & drop them.

For instance : you select 10 files in the left lister and want to drag & drop them in the right lister, you can see a ghost of your selection during the Drag operation. Can you change this opacity level ?

Thx ^^

Type "drag" into the prefs filter and it should be the first thing you see (at least in the English Opus):

oups, I already seen this, but I thought it was only when dragging pictures... like in thumbnails mode...

I should have tried it.

I'm glad that Opus support this setting, thx

I'm not too crazy about the colored background when dragging files. Is there any way to turn off the background on the drag image so it looks like it did in Opus 8?

Only by turning off the background colour for selected items, I think.

I don't think that will work. The background color of drag images appears to be tied to the color of selected files, and I can't turn off the background color of selected files for obvious reasons.

I hope that an option could be provided to turn off the background color on drag images; either a check box, or separate text and background color settings for drag images. If there were color settings, I could just set the background color to transparent and change the text color to black to make it look like Opus 8. Other users would probably appreciate the ability to change the background color to whatever they want rather than being tied to selected files.

Also, there seems to be a bug when dragging files. Most of the time, the background color appears uniform with sharp edges, however, sometimes the whole drag image fades from top to bottom and side to side. There appears to be no reason for this, it just does it at random.

One reason I don't like the background color is because in Details view it extends beneath the icon, and the semi-transparent pixels around the edge of some icons do not blend with the background color properly.

Thank I want these feature too.

You can turn off the background colour of selected files and instead use a foreground colour which stands out to see what is selected. Perhaps that would be worse than the drag image edges that you describe but I mention it just in case you didn't realise.

That isn't a bug or random; it happens when the drag image becomes larger than a certain size.

I see what you mean, although it usually looks okay for my by chance of the colours I use. (It looks bad if I drag over a dark background but most of mine are light.)

Looks like the alpha channel for icon and the drag image are not being combined in a sensible way. I've sent a report to GPSoft.

If that was fixed would you still want to disable the background colours when dragging?

I see, but it still seems inconsistent. Usually the "gradient fade" effect only shows up when dragging more than 5 or 6 files, but it depends on how long the file names are too. Sometimes this effect is used even when dragging a single file if the file has a long name.

With my current settings, the drag image has white text on a blue background. When the fade effect is applied to a single file, the background becomes faded out so much that it's almost impossible to read the file name.

I don't think this fade effect should ever be applied to a single file, only when dragging multiple files (say 5 or more). That's how it works in the Windows Explorer.

Yes, if there was an option to do it, I would probably disable the background color. I really liked the way it looked on Opus 8. However, if the alpha blending problem was fixed and some work was done on the fade effect, then that would be a big improvement.

Fair enough. If you want things changed your best bet is to send GPSoft a request with your thoughts.

I've already filed a report about the jaggies around the edges of 32-bit icons in the drag image so don't worry about that aspect.

The circular fade effect is provided automatically by the Windows IDragSourceHelper interface and I don't think it can be turned off. I think it simply multiplies the width by height of the drag image and applies the fade if this exceeds some hard-coded threshhold.

That's unfortunate. I wonder then why the Windows Explorer does not have this problem. When dragging files in Windows Exporer, this fade effect is only seen if 12 or more files are selected.

If there's really no way to stop this fade effect from happening on one or two files, please consider an option to have no background color at all like in Opus 8. Thanks!
