When I am moving files to a folder by drag and drop in explorer view within the right pane, the target folder is displayed with a grey dotted border. I would like to display a blue background for the target folder instead of this dotted border, which is sometimes hard to see. It should be the same as dragging a file to a target folder on the left pane.
Is it possible?
BTW How can I disable the disturbing tooltip showing the whole target path?
If you turned off the drop-path infotip it'd be quite hard to tell which path you were hovering over, especially when dragging several files at once since their drag-image obscures several rows of target folders and makes it hard to see what you're about to drop them into.
(In my example screenshot below only one file is being dragged, and there are only two possible target folders, so it's not as complex as it could be but even then I find the infotip useful for confirming that when I let go of the mouse button I will drop the file(s) over what I'm intending to.)
Is it just because it has the full path that you don't like it, or do you hate it entirely? (Maybe the full path should only be displayed when in a Collection or Flat View. When viewing a directory normally just the name of the target would suffice.)
I "hate" it entirely; I don't need this - because I never missed it for years in Windows Explorer.
In DOpus, there are three "symbols/signs" when moving files (right pane of explorer view): (second screengrab)
a border at the target folder (very hard to see, because only a dotted border)
a big tooltip (unnecessary)
a small caret (not to be seen on the screenshot)
In Windows Explorer there is just one "symbol": (first screengrab)
simply a highlighted target folder (good to see)
As you can see in the attached screengrabs, in Windows Explorer the target folder is simply highlighted. That's enough. Ok, it's a little bit covered by the dragged files (which are are a little bit transparent highlighted), but you can clearly see it when working fast. In contrast to the weak dotted border, which is hard to see when it's covered a little bit by the dragged files. (Because of that I understand that you need the tooltip!)
For me, because I am used since years, the latter is enough. I would be very pleased to be able to deactivate the other "signs" of DOpus because they are disturbing me.

I completely do NOT agree with you. Neither highlighting is enough nor target directory is clearly visible in Explorer, especially when working fast.
Thorsten, I understand what you are saying and you have a right to your own preference. Personally speaking, I'd have to agree with what others are saying. Often it is the case that programs don't make it very clear what the result of an action will be. This tooltip and border outline in Dopus helps to make it very clear exactly where you are about to drop your important files. So from my perspective it becomes not a matter of minor cosmetics but a guarantee that you are informed about what you are about to do.
Having said that, it could be included as an option to switch off I guess, although I doubt many people would switch it off. But that doesn't make you wrong at all. Choice is a wonderful thing, even if you are the minority.
Well, I just would like to make it more clearer - instead of a (hard to see with my bad eyes) small dotted border outline I'd like to have a good visible background like the one on the left side in the explorer tree pane. There are so many display preferences - why is this one missing? (e.g. many different blend and transparency options...). Cannot be too hard to implement?!
And: to be able to switch off the tooltip would be nice, too. I like lean software.
Thank you. I been using DOpus for awhile now but I still find the preferences panel such a jumble. I actually tried looking for this setting. I looked all through "Display" and "File Operations". Anyway, I don't mean to rant. This worked and I thank you.
At the bottom of the Preferences dialog is a Filter field. This lets you search for Preferences items matching a specified string,
making it much easier to locate items than before!
Just to be sure that my questions is not going to disappear: I would like to configure the dotted border outline of a folder to something more visible. My aim is to achieve the same behaviour on both panes of the explorer (tree pane/file pane), when dragging some files on a folder.
Just to remember: on the left pane it's like in the Explorer (target folder has a blue background). On the right side, there is some dotted outline border, which is hard to see on modern screens.
Please: Make it consistent. There should be the same behaviour on both sides. Whether with or w/o tooltips, I don't care. To have a display option to chose the border/color + tooltip would be perfect.
Again: Would it be possible to offer such options?
Thank you,
Thorsten

I see your point Thorsten and I tend to agree with you. I have the prefs option set so my listers power and details full row selection is turned on. With a lister set up in dual pane mode with the folder tree also turned on over on the left side, if I drag a selected item from the left lister pane to the folder tree, as soon as my mouse pointer enters the folder tree pane, I see a folder in the tree become highlighted. I like that. On the other hand if I drag a selected item in the left pane to the other (right hand) lister pane, it is not highlighted, just the dots you mentioned become visible. But only when directly over the folder name. Since I have full row selection turned on in my prefs for listers in details or power mode it would make more sense to me that would also apply to the target drop area during a drag and drop operation. If I turned off the full row selection option then I would expect it to work the way it does now.
I'll file a feature request for this and also suggest adding an option to allow us to highlight targeted lister pane folders during a drag and drop operation.
The problem with highlighting target folders in the file display is that one or more items in the file display may already be selected - including the target folder. So if you dragged a file over a folder that was already selected, you would get no feedback at all.
Yep, I should have caught that myself. What about the possibility of extending the full row selection option for details and power modes so it applies to drag and drop operations too? It would only apply to those two modes and could help (in my mind anyway) clarify just where the current drop area is.
I don't really understand what you mean by that, sorry.[/quote]
The mouse pointer changes and indicates that the folder can't be used as a target. It's the same in DOpus. And in List Mode DOpus even behaves as Thorsten wants it to...
