Error dragging from Outlook to Opus

It's very strange that that changing from 0 to 10 MB would fix it (that usually makes things less compatible, as it introduces a more esoteric way of writing the data), but I'm glad it is now working, and we'll keep it in mind as a suggestion if anyone else runs into a similar problem.

It may support the theory that anti-virus was involved somehow, as the a/v scanner may treat non-buffered I/O differently to normal I/O, perhaps.

Thanks for getting back to us with the detail, since it may be useful to others who run into a similar problem!

Hi
I have the same problem: Cannot drag attachments from Outlook into Dopus.
No error messages, just a :no_entry_sign: (in black).
Doesn't matter if I drag to a local folder or networkfolder. Dragging from the desktop Works as a sharm.
Using Dopus 12.10 64bit on Win10. Symantech AV. Latest Outlook 365 ProPlus.
It did work some time ago - just can't remember how long.

Can you drag into the same folder from Outlook to File Explorer?

Does holding shift or ctrl while dragging make a difference?

Make sure Opus is not elevated as administrator. (You can use Admin Mode and UAC in Opus, but don't launch the entire dopus.exe process elevated, or non-elevated programs won't be able to talk to it.)

Thank you for Swift feedback!

Opus starts autmatically. It is not started as an administrator.
Did some testing:
Drag from Oulook to same folder in File Explorer works fine.Tested several file types.
Using shift, Ctrl or Alt or acombo does not help.
An attacment of type .msg (Outlook item) works fine dragging from Outlook to Opus.
All other file types I tried to drag (PPTX, XLSX, DOCX, PDF, PNG, ICS, CSV, ZIP, HTM) gives the "forbidden cursor". Strange that the Outlook Item is OK to drag.
Draging from Outlook into Evernote works fine. Dragging from Outlook to desktop to Opus works fine.

Seems OK here. Am I doing the right thing?

I've only tried from a message in my own drafts folder, since I don't have Outlook set up to read mail that has been sent to me.

Yes. You are doing it right.
You get it saved.
For me, as soon as the cursor gets into the Opus window, my cursor turns into a forbidden sign.
Can it be that our IT department have put some security restrains in Windows to get this behavior? (I don't think so)

I'd expect that to block the msg attachments as well. It's a bit strange it only blocks some types and not others.

I am having the same problem on a new work computer. Is there a solution?

What are the exact symptoms you're seeing?

Is it with all attachment types, or just some?

Does dragging work from Outlook to File Explorer, with the same attachment and destination folder?

Have you tried turning off the async drag & drop option mentioned above?

Checked that Opus is not running elevated? (It will say ADMINISTRATOR in the titlebar if it is, on the current version.)

Does drag & drop from other software to Opus work OK?

Everything from Ordinerdy posted on Oct 29, 2018 and following applies to me, except I'm using Win7 with Outlook 2010 on a corporate machine with TrendMicro antivirus running. This is the first time in about 7-8 years of using Dopus in various corporate environments that I've had this problem. My workaround now is to drag to Desktop, then cut/paste to Dopus. I tested v11 and v12 portable with the same results.

Is it with all attachment types, or just some?
J> all types, but I can drag and drop the emails themselves (.msg) into Dopus.

Does dragging work from Outlook to File Explorer, with the same attachment and destination folder?
J> yes, the destination is on the local C: drive.

Have you tried turning off the async drag & drop option mentioned above?
J> yes, no effect. Also the buffer size.

Checked that Opus is not running elevated? (It will say ADMINISTRATOR in the titlebar if it is, on the current version.)
J> checked

Does drag & drop from other software to Opus work OK?
J> can you give me an example of something I could try?

Appreciate your help!

My guess is it's the antivirus, but it's hard to say for sure.

Since you've tried with versions of Opus where it used to work for you, that rules out the problem being caused by a change in how Opus does things, and makes it probable (though not definite) that whatever is preventing the operation is outside of Opus, i.e. Antivirus or Outlook itself (or its configuration).

Hi
The problem has disappeared for me.
Our IT had installed Avecto Defendpoint but not activated it ( took some time before they did).
When it was activated, the problems were gone.
I cannot say that was the reason, but it seems likely it had somethong to do with it.

Thank you both. It's a new computer at a new-to-me company, and therefore a new environment for me to be using Dopus, I don't think I want to ask IT for any changes to antivirus settings so I'll wait for the anticipated upgrade from Win7 to Win10 and hope it works then.

A search for Outlook 2010 drag and drop problems didn't find a solution. I was hopeful that the OutlookFileDrag add-in might work (GitHub) but no luck.

A faster workaround than dragging to the Desktop first is to copy the attachment in Outlook (ctrl-c) and paste it into Dopus. Only drag and drop doesn't work.

Hi Ordinerdy - it turns out my machine also has Avecto Defendpoint installed. Do you know a little more specifically what IT did? I don't want to raise any policy alarms.

Thanks!

Hi
I have no idea...
Only I know is that the software were installed on all computers but not activated. Duting the unactivated period, the drag'n'drop problem was present.
When they activated it, Dopus worked OK again.
By actibation, I mean they removed my Admion credentials and let Avecto take over.
