Exceeded NTFS location/filename 255 chars

I am having problems with 500 files copied to my system with location/filename exceeding NTFS limit 255 chars, which I cannot delete. Could anyone suggest a way I could use Dopus to
a) Filter them (eg using Flat View)
b) Truncate the location/filename to below 255 chars

Many thanks

Opus should be able to delete them so long as you bypass the recycle bin.

Try holding shift when clicking the delete button, or make a button which runs Delete NORECYCLE

OK, that's deleted the files that were stuck in my DVD Burn folder.

With the original files, I still wish to rename them to a shortened name (eg using ~ at max chars).

Thanks Leo

Do you need to keep them in sub-directories? You could use Flat View (mixed no folders) to move them all to the same folder.

Is the problem that the individual path components are too long, or that they are too long when combined together?

Opus's rename functions seem to cope fine with long path names but how you use them to reduce the names depends on exactly what you need to change.

Not sure if it's location/filename or location+filename. The software I'm using to burn (& I've tried a couple of tools, Explorer & Express Burn) keep stalling & failing on these 500 files before burning to DVD.

I was trying to use Dopus to isolate them, and then rename them. eg truncate the location and/or filename with ~ after 250 characters.
