I have quicktime files (.MOV) files in a menu program creagted by another program. When I double click on the menu entry, quicktime player is supposed open the program. However, when I do so, Dopus comes up with the selecton listed. If I right click the file that was opened in the lister, and "open with" quicktime player, the movie file starts fine.
I know I have probably missed something or set something to cause this but I cannot find it. I have the "system files" option set for MOV extension to Quicktime Player.
Try using the Open With menu, but select "Choose Program" instead of QuickTime Player. Then in the dialog that appears, select QuickTime Player there and turn on the option to always use that program. That should fix up the filetype.
I tried that already. That is why I thought maybe I had overlooked something.
The program menu has single entry selections(chapters) which bring up several tutorial selections(Chapters, all .MOV files) and is supposed to play the first movie in the chapter, and automatically position to play the next selection in the chapter.
As I select each menu option, Dopus opens to show the .mov files in that selection and then if I click on the individual .mov files in the chapter,
Quicktime starts the movie. Each click on the program menu selections brings up a new lister tab at the bottom of the screen with the .mov files listed for that chapter.
This is a commercial program on DVD that is a tutorial on Dreamweaver. If I disable Dopus totally (by uninstalling it) the menu program works fine. There must be an option/setting that I have not set properly for this to work correctly??
Goody
That's strange. The tutorial must be doing something unusual to launch the .mov files as Opus doesn't make any claims on the .mov filetype.
Just to check, could you copy the path to one of the .mov files to your clipboard, then paste it into the Start -> Run box and verify that QuickTime opens instead of Opus?
Is the tutorial itself an application or is it browser/HTML-based? If it's the latter, and if you're familiar with HTML, could you try to see what it's doing when the .mov links are clicked?
I just got your reply (in from work) and will do some checking/debug and get a better handle on just what is going on. I will trun the log file on in Dopus to see if it shows anything unusual. "I'll be back"
Click on first item in menu selection (which is a pointer to folder(videos) where movie chapter folders are located which subdirectorys to first .mov file.
Dbl clicking first menu selection brings up Dopus lister with first movie showing. Dbl clicking .mov file does nothing. Right click .mov file and select either "open" or "run with"(selecting Quicktime player) starts Quicktime mov file.
Taking the path of the first .mov file and placeing it in the RUN command line starts Quicktime player.
Nothing in Dopus log file shows problem or error.
This is got to be a feature selection issue with in Dopus but for the life of me I cannot locate where/what I should be selecting to be able to execute the program menu selections without opening Dopus.
So is the problem that double-clicking the .mov files isn't launching QuickTime Player, or that the tutorial is showing Opus instead of playing the .mov files directly?
What happens if you disable Explorer Replacement in Opus? Does it work then, or the same problem?
Sorry for the delay, in getting back in a timely manner..
Turning off Dopus had no impact on lauching the application. It now comes up in Explorer the same way it did in Dopus. Suspect that this has got to be an issue with my system.
Additionally I will check with the DVD author company to see if there is something different. Every DVD I have purchased from the company has operated properly, so loaded one that used to work and it does work properly. So the problem has to be with the DVD, although I do not see what the menu program could be doing to prevent Quicktime from starting when a file with .mov is selected and the my system is configured to start Quicktime player with any .mov file.
