I download files via FTP from my company and I often get an additional window - FTP Status - along with the Copying Dialog which tell me basically 'the status'
Most of the time this window just display during the initial connection, but now I'm also seeing it during download/copy copy
Any way to get rid of that window and still have it show up when I first connection to the FTP site
You may be able to stop it happening by changing or disabling the progress dialog delay under Preferences - File Operations - Progress Indicators.
If either of you can give more information on how to reproduce it then that'd help fix it. I don't think it's normal or intended. (At least, I have never seen it happen here.)
It's not hard to reproduce. The extra dialogue pops up beside the real progress indicator if I drag and drop a larger file from an ftp server into a local disk in the next window (when using a side-by-side two lister mode).
Lots of other things make that window popup as well... even after unchecking all the options under "Display" in the address book, for that site.
I haven't really tried changing any of those settings - I normally have the "Show progress bar speed timer when copying from or to (*) Any Location" set.
I don't see that any of these options would trigger that extra useless dialogue.
So it looks like the problem happens if the FTP site (and your network connection to it) takes a certain amount of time to respond which means the extra window appears at the same time that the full progress dialog appears. I'll see if I can reproduce it by adjusting my own settings and report what I find to GPSoftware.
I'm having the same problem too. This is especially annoying when it pops up at the END of an FTP operation (like when an upload is complete) and I'm working in some OTHER program.
It's set to 800 ms, which I assume is the default. Interestingly, I cannot make that extra dialogue come up by simply turning the delayed progress indicators back on. Weird...
Maybe I'll try it on another computer. Perhaps turning it off and on again can fix this?
Does adjusting the delay in Preferences (mentioned above) help?[/quote]
Yes it does, but I really want the progress indicator for all operations, EXCEPT for that FTP status dialog! It's so disruptive... for me it's enough to see the status in the status bar
I quite like the idea of having certain progress indicators 'docked' someplace like the status bar where it would show the most basic info of the operation like overall progress/percentage or some such... with the ability to click on a piece of it to call up the normal full progress dialog...
