please add a shortcut for this!
I go to the keyboard shortcuts via a shortcut, then press F3 to take me to the filterbox, and then have to go and click with the mouse on the button that changes the search mode.
It could be F3 again, so pressing it twice would directly take one to this mode.

If I understand correctly, the TAB key does just that. 
that should work, but it doesn't !!
on the other hand, I am trying to click on the button with the mouse and it doesn't work either !!! maybe it broke in the last beta (10.2.0.0 - 4645) , or is it just me?
anyway, that could be a quick'n'dirty solution, but it's not really practical. You have to press
F3, tab, Shift-tab,
whereas pressing F3 twice would be much faster. Or having an option to search in the details first, by default.
terribly sorry, the above is not true. I tried it back at my home installation and I don't even have to press shift-tab, it goes by itself. excellent !!
Once the filter box is active, pressing F3 sets the value of the filter box to F3 (e.g. filtering for hotkeys that use F3).
Maybe we should make the filter remember its current setting from one use to the next.
pressing F3, tab, space is not bad, but remembering the last option would be ideal! thanks!
