I have several file collections (Word Documents, PowerPoint, Linux ISOs, PDFs...) that are setup under the "File Collections" tree. For example, my Word Documents query is:
Query: ext:doc OR ext:dot OR ext:docx OR ext:docm OR ext:dotx OR ext:dotm OR ext:docb
Add folder to search: C:\Files
[x] Refresh results automatically
I'm 100% certain that there are many many files that should match the query. For the Word query, I even created a new file C:\Files\Test Test 123.docx but it's still not found by my query.
These queries were all working just fine for a long time. Unfortunately queries are so slow, so I don't use them that often... Today I noticed that suddenly all of the queries are broken. The top progress bar spins while the query is loading... yet no files are ever displayed.
Perhaps related to doing an upgrade or a restore since the query was created?
Do the queries work if you go to C:\Files and then paste the query into the Search Field (top right on the default toolbars)?
If not, what happens if you do the same thing in File Explorer? If it doesn't work there either then Windows Search may be broken or misconfigured in some way.
When I go to the C:\Files folder in the lister and then in the top right searchbox type:
ext:docx
I do get the correct list of files. There's an "I" icon saying "the location you are searching is not indexed and so the search may be slower than expected".
So why would it work via the top right box but not via the collections tree? (especially confusing since it used to work... I didn't reconfigure anything, though I do frequently backup and restore Opus settings)
I typed the ext:docx in the post, but I had also tested many other iterations.
So, as you asked I saved the search as a stored query. It was added to my Files Collections, Stored Queries -> Search Results for...
And now, after it was added, I can go to File Collections -> PDFs or any of my other collections, and they all work properly again.
It's as if the File Collections Stored Queries somehow became detached from the Windows Search, and creating a new Stored Query based on my search has reattached it.
Note that during the interim I was NOT doing anything else to somehow fiddle with the results. I wasn't even using my computer. My only steps between collections stored queries not working and working was to open the Directory Opus Help, look up Searching and Filtering, then look up Windows Search, enter a variety of search queries in the top right box, and then right click to save a query...
Windows 10 has come so far, and Opus is so great! Stuff like this are the wacky things that make me miss the predictability of Mac OS X
