File Crypt crashing while right clicking data

Just purchased a license to File Crypt 15 minutes ago and decided to use this within DOpus. Very secure product...2048 bit encryption algorithms for protected files. I enabled the option to add right click option to folders and files within Explorer. However...when I highlighted files in DOpus and then right click to encrypt the selected files I get a crash. Below is a screen capture of what happens. This crash is very consistent and it clearly states the fault is DOpus. I would appreciate any advice on how to clear this problem up. Thanks in advance.

The crash is in the dopus.exe process but that doesn't mean it is actually a bug in Opus. In fact that crash dialog does not look like anything Opus would ever display. If you click the link for more information at the bottom of the dialog in your screenshot it should confirm that it's coming from a different company's product.

I suspect the crash is happening inside the shell extension that provides the right-click option you are using. (Shell extensions are DLL that dopus.exe loads, so if they crash dopus.exe crashes.)

First the most important question: If you do the same thing to the same file in the same folder, but using Explorer instead of Opus, does it work okay?

If it does work in Explorer then is this program something which anyone can download a trail version of to test against, or do you have to buy it to use it?

I did some more testing and it appears to be caused by VCOM's PowerDesk program because I tried to right click a folder using a different file manager and I got a crash message about a process called "pdshext.dll"

I googled this term and I found it's commonly known to be a Powerdesk DLL file. So I searched for it on my computer and viola there it was. So I renamed it pdshext.old and redid the right click process using a different folder. Now it seems to work.

You can download a 30 day trial of Folder Crypt. Go to download.com and type in "Folder Crypt" (without the quotes) in the search field. It'll give you details about the program and you can get it directly from there.

So the problem is solved? If so I don't need the trial version so don't worry about the details.

Download the trial just in case. I uninstalled VCOM PowerDesk 5.0 and rebooted. I just right clicked several files and encrypted some misc images just to be sure. However, I can't be sure whether this program is causing DOpus to crash if it's because I chose too many files to encrypt using DOpus. I doubt it because this program can handle big files. It's possible DOpus is crashing because Folder Crypt is calling Explorer explicitly...and since I've made DOpus the default file handler...it's possible it can't handle this process.

Bottom line...Folder Crypt has to be tested with some large files from within DOpus to be sure whether or not it's causing the crash or whether DOpus itself is at fault.

If it crashes for you again let us know, otherwise I'm going to consider it solved. I've got lots of other things to do and it sounds like you've got it working now and are able to test it yourself. If you find a problem and need it confirming or investigating further then I'm happy to help.
