It may be happening with other file types also, but so far I have only noticed that when opening Excel (2003) files with names that have embedded spaces in them (double-clicking on the file using Directory Opus), I get errors in Excel right away saying that it cannot find the files - for example the filename is "My File.xls" (with a space between the "My" and "File") I get first and error message saying "My.xls not found" and then "File.xls" not found. It's as if it is splitting up the filename when trying to open the files. After hitting OK on each error message the file does eventually open OK. I know in this manner I can get aroun the problem but it is especially annoying with filnames containing many segments separated by spaces. This does not occur when opening the same file with plain old Windows Explorer. I am operating under WinXP SP3. I started noticing this after upgrading to 9.1.17 but it could also have occurred with the orginal 9.0 version I licensed.
Thanks for any information you can provide to resolve this.
Go to Settings -> File Types and open the XLS type.
First check that Left double-click on the Events tab is < not defined > (as it normally should be) and then see what's defined on the Actions tab, in particular the open action.
If you may have edited any of them, do the same for the Documents file type group (in the File Type Groups part of the list, near the top) and the special All Files and All Files And Folders types (right at the top of the list).
Here's what my XLS Open action look like, as defined by Office 2007. It works fine with filenames containing spaces:
Awesome! Works fine now with no error message after I changed my file Open action to mirroe your example. For some reason there was an extra "%1" at the end of the command string which looked like:
