Filetyp "Recognized Images"

I believe I had image files related (for opening) to an application that I have now uninstalled, soI now want to relate image files to another application. Is it possible to do this via Settings/File Types/Recognized Images (and, if so, how; I cannot figure it out), or do I have to set the relation for each file extension?

Thanks,

Hans L

You can have a look in -> options -> preferences -> file types -> file type groups -> Image -> edit

or, if it was a specific extension like .tib, open file types in the same location, but look in the system file types. You can edit that as well.

Ok, abr, I will take a look there. Thank you!

Much better to get the new application to associate the files to itself - presuming it can of course. It may need a fresh installation to do so.

That sounds right. I could not find out how, but I have now looked again, and found it. Strangely enough, it does not work. There must be some explanation, and I will look for it.

Thanks,

Hans L

The app I am now using is XnView. In this app, I set the most common image files to open with it. However, it does not work.

In Dopus Settings – File Types – System File Types, jpg is set to open with XnView. However, when I double-click on a .jpg file, it opens with Quick View Plus (which I also have).

I have never had this problem before. Would anyone have any idea what is going on?

Just an addition: .tif opens with XnView.

Maybe you work as a normal user? Sometimes changes have to be made while in admin mode.

I have never had any problems changing anything when I have started the computer the normal way.

Thanks anyway.

Now, .tif also opens in Quick View Plus. Very strange!!!

Did you have a look in the file type groups -> images? This can override (as a group) single extension rules. Check your left mouse action for those entries. Or maybe the problem isn´t related to Opus at all.

When I look at .jpg in File Types, it says "Open with XnView:, but when I click Edit, under tab Actions, "open" is "".

I guess that is the reason files are not opening with XnView.

Maybe I am not the administrator after all. How can i check that?

Hans L

Quickest check in a standard installation: if you can change the system time by double clicking the clock in the bottom right, you have administrative rights.

There is no left click event listed at all for the extensions in the Image group.

Hans L

Sorry, I meant that "left double-click" is "".

What types are in your "Images" file type group, if any?

Did you try setting the behavior for file types by manually changing the "open with" (-> file -> right click -> open with -> set standard) option?

Thanks, I could!

I have to finish now, but I will pick up tomorrow. Sorry for that, but it is necessary. Thank you so much for your help so far.

Somewhat belated, due to family day Friday and to that I wanted to conduct some experiments to try to figure out what prevented XnView to associate files with itself.

To make a long story short, the culprit was QuickView Plus. After I uninstalled QuickView Plus (QVP), everything worked as it should. I will now have to try to figure out what possible setting in QVP prevented the association.

In other words, Dopus is entirely innocent. Thanks for your help on this list, though, since it helped me narrowing in on the problem.
